Mahekal Beach Resort - 77710 Playa del Carmen

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in August 2021. The property is absolutely beautiful with lovely landscaping. We saw monkeys and a coati from our balcony which was really fun. We did the all-inclusive option and definitely enjoyed the drinks while relaxing at the pools. Overall, we felt the food was mediocre. Service was excellent and we particularly felt that Rogelio did an amazing job as a server. We're giving 4 instead of 5 stars because we had to be moved 3 separate times due to issues in the rooms. Our first room which was a palapa smelled strongly of animal urine. The AC broke in the 2nd room. 3rd room was fine. We felt that upkeep wasn't as good as it could be given these problems. They did offer us hotel credit for these issues.

Our upgraded beach hut was right against the strip and had a club blaring music until 3:00 AM. We discovered small bugs all in our sheets and on our floor. We had to change rooms to get away from the club, but were required to downgrade to their basic room (with no refund compensation). We did manage to sleep at night, but discovered if you use the bathroom water starts flooding all along the floor. We had to change rooms again, further wasting our time to vacation. We paid for all inclusive but using the service was not convenient or stress free. Any time you get food, a drink, coffee, or anything; you have to give your room number and sign a ticket to give tip. I have no problem with gratuity, but give an option to give cash or do it all at once at the end instead of every time you try and use the service you paid for.

honestly can’t say enough about this spot. if you see some negative reviews, remind yourself that there are always a handful of needy people who have unrealistic expectations. i had high expectations and this place blew them away. easily the best spot on the strip (people often stopped by our private part of the beach asking what they hotel was called). I will say if you want to avoid bustle, then Playa Del Carmen is not for you (at least off the main strip). the staff is what made the experience - place is beautiful but the experience is nothing without the staff. they were warm, incredible and friendly through and through. we did NOT do the all-inclusive, and despite other reviews the staff was ultra-focused on us and our needs. in the end we even tried to buy the staff a tequila shot as a thanks and they refused (hey management, your staff is too good, make sure you reward them!) if we come back to playa del carmen, there is literally nothing that would make us stay anywhere but here.

I travel quite a bit with my family & this resort is one of the greatest! My wife & I brought our 11 month old along for the trip & the staff was unbelievably accommodating. 10/10 would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a high class place with an amazing view & delicious food!!

It's a beautiful resort in the middle of Playa del Carmen. They have around 80 bungalows in a lush garden and beach setting. You feel like in a remote beach resort but are just 100m away from the bustling 5. Avenida.We stayed several nights and enjoyed every moment. Check the restaurants for my detail review on them.

Positive: The hotel was very nice and staff was friendly. The accommodations were very clean ansd spacious and food was very good. The beach was right there by the hotel. Negative: I didn¿t know I had to pay a 105.00 USD resort fee. That was not disclosed when we did the reservation. I assumed the hotel was fully paid.

Authentic, with its own vibe. Very good service, staff is very nice. Palapa rooms are awesome, but tricky. We thought we bought ocean view second floor, and it was not. So be careful choosing. Food is delicious, cannot say about the best restaurant, because we loved all of them. Would recommend the place, but for us it was a very expensive stay.

Probably the best resort in Playa del Carmen. Three pools, two restaurants, a couple bars. All inclusive if you want that (the food and service are excellent). The place just feels (and is) special. Located on a nice street with a good swimming beach in front. The rooms are one and two units mostly and are very tastefully done. I don't think you could regret staying here!
