Jodi and Carlos have truly created a paradise at Mar a Cielo. My boyfriend and I came down from the PNW to escape the cold and felt lucky to have stumbled upon Jodi and Carlos' little slice of heaven. The property is immaculate and filled with loving little touches - chairs facing perfect views with binoculars at the ready, comfy couches and hammocks to relax and read in, and a full kit of chairs, cooler, and umbrella for you perfect beach set-up. We also took advantage of Carlos's incredible cooking, which featured local products and herbs from their garden. The whole experience was simply magical. A couple of things we learned from our trip: don't rent a car! There are a couple of options for transportation in Lo de Marcos and taxis are easily arranged. Bring your hiking shoes! The bungalow and palapa are great to hang out in, but the property offers great trails too. Definitely have Jodi/Carlos make you a few meals. So glad we took advantage of that! And finally, get out and check the surrounding areas and Lo de Marcos. We loved the markets and local beach restaurants in town. Thank you Jodi and Carlos!

My husband and I just returned home from our stay at Mar al Cielo and already booked another stay for next year. We are very familiar with the surrounding villages, with many friends to see when we travel to the area. The beginning of the trip was spent driving around, seeing our friends, and eating at our favorite restaurants. Towards the middle of out stay we decided to try a few of the amenities on site. First, we had "jungle room service", ordered through a local restaurant and brought to us by the caretaker, Raul. By the way, Raul is fantastic. He was a wizard at cleaning and maintenance without being seen, always kind with a smile, and went above and beyond making us feel at home. After successful room service, we decided to stay in and enjoy a meal prepared by Carlos (owner) and served by Jodi (owner). It was by far the best dining experience of the trip, and we are food snobs. Carlos served us local delicacies, such as using zucchini blossoms in a quesadilla as an appetizer. The fish was fresh, prepared perfectly. We also tried the steak and shrimp. Everything was delicious. We ended up spending the end of our trip eating in every night. It just doesn't get any better than food prepared to perfection, overlooking the ocean at sunset. We will eat much more "at home" when we return. The owners, Carlos and Jodi, are the best hosts imaginable, nowhere in site unless you want them to be. They are kind, honest, helpful, and maintain the property to perfection. Jodi is helpful with suggestions and ideas on how to spend time there, but only if you can tear yourself away from the views. That is difficult to do. The property is primarily outdoor living as you can tell from the pictures. The bedroom is enclosed with screen, but everything else is outside. This is right up our alley. We liked the exercise of the hill leading to the bedroom, took advantage of the outdoor tub every night. No matter where you are on the property, the view is out of this world. If you like hiking trails and outdoor living, this place is for you. The property is gated and very secluded, perfect. This was the most romantic getaway my husband and I have ever experienced. We cannot wait to go back. Thank you Jodi, Carlos, and Raul!

This is a magical retreat! Whales, birds, reptiles, and much more! The meals were 5 Star delicious and our hostess, Jodi, made us feel as if we were home!! We are planning a return visit!

The Perfect Getaway! My husband and I booked this trip as sort of a honeymoon prior to our elopement. It was absolutely gorgeous! The cabana we stayed in was so adorable and fit all of our needs. Jodi is a wonderful host and her husband Carlos is an amazing chef. We couldn't wait for our next meal. The property itself is heavenly and very secluded, which is exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful private beach, whale watching, nature walking trails and the most romantic sunsets you could ever imagine. We stayed almost a week and were able to thoroughly enjoy the area. We've taken a few trips together, but this was by far the most enjoyable. We can't wait to book our next trip!
