★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a charming if rather rustic venue (think tent, folding chairs, dirt floor) with REALLY delicious shrimp dishes. Try the shrimp taco - a real bargain and super delicious. I had the garlic shrimp for my entree and it was amazing. Very flavorful with camarones so tender they melt in your mouth.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This isn't everybody's cup of tea. In fact, I don't even know if you can get tea. It's a dirt floor, open air family owned place that has very good food and home-made tequila that is quite good. Take your time - enjoy the 'atmosphere'.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A small rustic place, but don't let that trick you. The food is exceptional, and beyond delicious. With that home made touch, this restaurant's family recipes will make your day. Family owned, this restaurant is one of the best in the lake of chapala. Cheap prices, kind people, good service; try and alike myself, you wont be disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is cheerful and clean. The seafood is very good and fresh and the chili salsa was excellent if you like really hot! The hamburger was okay but the fries were soggy. Good place for seafood.

Located on the eastern outskirts of Chapala, well away from the town's tourist crowds, Mariscos el Pingüino is truly a hidden gem for seafood lovers.
Don't let the spit and sawdust¹ atmosphere or ramshackle appearance fool you, because what emerges from the restaurant's open plan kitchen is nothing short of excellent.
Service is friendly and prices are more than fair for what's on offer.
Highly recommended... I'll be coming back here.
¹ In fact, there's not even any sawdust; it's just a dirt floor.
