Mayan Monkey Hostel Tulum - 77780 Tulum

The hostel itself is very modern and the rooms are very good, beds, showers etc and housekeeping came every day. However a few members of the reception team were rude. When we first arrived (7pm - 20/12/21) we entered the reception and the gentleman at the desk didn't say hello and or even look at us. I asked if we could make a reservation to which he responded "No" shrugged and shook his head. We left and looked online as we had seen rooms available and booked a room via booking.com. We spoke to another member of staff to check-in and which went smoother but still could have been more polite. I would name the gentleman on reception but he was not wearing a name badge (he had dark curly hair). The only conclusion I could come to was that he could not be bothered to make a 'walk in' reservation. But not only does this give off a bad first impression but costs the business money on commission through booking agents when a direct reservation could have been made on site.

The hostel is nice and clean but there is no event organized by the hotel. Loud music all day long. If you are not planning to get wasted all day long go somewhere else. I have never been in a hostel where people have so little respect for their roommate. They would party in the rooms, talk loud and turn on the light at any time of day or night. The bedroom door was not closing properly and would ring every time it was not fully closed. But people were most of the time to wasted to realized, I had to get out of bed several time at the middle of the night to close the door in order to make the noise stops. They would put their bag and clothes every where in the room making it hard to go around.

We stayed for 4 days and all of them the pool was closed due to maintainance. Obviously nobody told us about it. In addition, for an entire day, we stayed without electricity, and so, as a consequence, without air conditioning, and lights. Hot water was not provided in the showers. The kitchen is tiny, considering the huge number of people living the hostel. Last, talking about the nights at the bar: music is kept loud until almost 2 p.m. Despite what I wrote before, give 3 stars because the building and the rooms are pretty comfortable and enjoyable. There's a large relax zone with wonderful couches. Moreover the breakfast provides a wide choice and quality.

I have very good memories of my stay at Mayan. The parties were great, Diego organized super activities every night so everyone had a good time. Thanks to him, the fun in the hostel was so good. Whenever he showed up, people immediately had a great time. Thank you Diego and Mayan Monkey for this time! I can't wait to go back there!

Best hostel for the price I have found so far. Free water, breakfast, and yoga every morning. The kitchen was less then ideal, they only one working burner when I was there but otherwise it was a good stay. Private bunks and lockers. It can get a bit loud at night as there's music playing late - depending on which room you get.

Music is very loud outside but there is a very sociable vibe which is nice especially if you are a solo traveller and want to meet people. THIS IS NOT A FAMILY PLACE. There are drug dealers everywhere and lots of people on different drugs throughout the day. The dorms are really good. A lot of privacy and I feel very comfy in my bed. Although watch out for thiefs - I had $500 stolen from my bed. There are also a lot of British people which as a British person I don’t particularly like as I want to meet people from different countries. In my opinion this is the best hostel in the world but the reason it’s not getting 5 stars is because my money was stolen :(

One of the better party hostels I've ever been to, every night there was new people to meet, a different event/party, and an awesome vibe to the place. Not crazy prices either (thank god, finally in Tulum) however the staff do get a little overzealous and start billing you extra money hoping you won't notice as the night goes on. I have a feeling a lot of it is going in to their own pocket. There was one guy on the bar who decided beers are now $300mx at one point during the evening all of a sudden. It's a shame that they started doing it, because prior we were having an awesome evening. Seemed pretty exploitative.

Highly recommend for anyone! Looking for a chill place? They have a whole beautiful hangout area dedicated to that with yoga and relaxing spots to lay. Looking to go hard, make friends, and party? The pool and bar are perfect! Rooms are quiet and clean, wonderfully constructed. Food is great, staff is super nice and helpful, good middle ground between the beach and city.
