If you visit Actopan, you should definitely go to eat at your Market. The food is super rich, we go to the dining rooms and there you can order a dish of each position if you want to try everything a bit. Our favorite food was the Garcia Brothers barbecue.
It is a very colorful market, very friendly people and at a great price.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's the perfect place for tourists to have a small taste of Mexican cuisine! It has two floors; one for raw products and merchandise and the other one for prepared meals. I recommend going for breakfast at Mercado 8 de Julio and then taking a walk around the town to help your stomach digest. If the weather permits, you could go have a nice "carne asada" at the Parque Recreativo or at Los Frailes, and you can find all of the groceries you need in Mercado 8 de Julio. I recommend Carnicería el Rinconcito for all your meat necessities.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are looking for a good and traditional Barbacoa, this is the right place. On the 2nd floor is where you'll find different spots that offer barbacoa, some of them give you a Barbacoa taco for free to try it out before deciding whether you want to eat there or not. Definitely Barbacoa de Hermanos García is one of the best barbacoa places I've tried. The prices are accesible. They also have Ximbo which is like barbacoa but made with chicken and a special sauce. Also if you are looking for pulque, feel free to ask the owner, so he can take you to a place to try out a super fresh and delicious pulque. It's worth to mention that the barbacoa is served from 8am-2pm, because after that , the flavor changes or you won't find good Barbacoa. However, at night you can also try out other fonditas that serve Pozole, Tacos, Flautas and so on.
