En la inauguración del citado mercado construido por el Gobierno de México a través de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Agrario, Territorial y Urbano, el Alcalde fue acompañado por la presidenta del Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia y funcionarios del Gobierno de Matamoros. Este mercado expresó el Alcalde representa justicia, representa un gran avance en esta zona considerada con polígonos de pobreza; las familias que viven en este sector evitarán la movilidad porque aquí encontrarán algunos de los productos que pudieran requerir en sus hogares. Al referirse al premio por el que compite el mercado “Catarino Erasmo Garza” diseñado por la arquitecta Gabriela Carrillo Valdez, dijo que para Matamoros es un orgullo contar con esta importante obra construida por el Gobierno Federal con inversión que supera los 15.8 millones de pesos. La Arquitecta Carrillo Valdez, egresada de la Universidad Autónoma de México participa en el citado premio con la obra del mercado público, que se distingue por la disposición de la losa y la sustentabilidad del proyecto. El proyecto construido en Matamoros y que evidencia la nueva visión del Gobierno de México en materia de obra pública compite con obras realizadas por arquitectos de China, Japón, Corea del Sur, Vietnam, Paraguay, Perú, Kenia, India, Reino Unido, España, Francia, Portugal y Suiza.
