Mesón del Cid - 06040 Ciudad de México

4.5/5 based on 8 reviews

Great food! Try the Aioli Bread, easily one of the best aiolis I've tried. Spring Salad and Solomillo were really tasty and delicious. I went on Sunday and they had live music which completed the beautiful medieval scenery. Would visit again.

Nice environment, beautiful decor, great service, but the food could be better. My paella was very dry, I guess they left it in the oven too long, I couldn't eat it. The sangria was too diluted, like water...?

Beautiful interior, delicious dinner! Squid in black ink was outstanding. Spinach, pine nuts, raisin dish was a great accomplishment. The wine paired well with the Spanish dishes. Pulpo ala Gallega was the best we ever had... Looking forward to our return. Thanks again for a wonderful evening!

Glass stained windows and some ancient looking armors will definitely woo you the moment you step inside this small restaurant. However the beauty stops there. The drinks are watered down, the service is horrendously slow and the food is abysmal! I went to the restaurant with my wife at 7 PM in the evening. As expected the restaurant was nearly empty. We ordered a mojito and a Manhattan. The mojito tasted like lemonade and the Manhattan was extremely bitter. We then asked for a baby goat preparation and a grilled chicken dish at around 7:15. The main trouble starts now. We waited for over an hour and no one came to our service in between. At around 8:40 the waiters bring out the food and the main server actually starts training another server there about plating!! we were famished and literally were astonished at the lack of courtesy from the servers. Coming to the food, i have never seen goat meat come out as white meat. The goat had the skin on which was extremely slimy and disgusting to eat. The 'grilled' chicken was 3 pieces of fried chicken! If i had wanted fried chicken i could have gone to KFC. We literally left the moment my wife had a piece of the goat because it was so revolting and bad. I would warn anyone planning to go here to have some back up options for dinner because you will most probably need it.

Really fun experience with the medieval show/dinner. The entertainers were very energetic and tried to engage all the diners. The unlimited wine was also a nice perk. The dishes they served were very meat-heavy (as one might expect in medieval times) so might not be the best choice for the vegetarians out there. Overall it was a fun experience which I'd recommend if looking for dinner with a twist.

what a fun experience! show + dinner and free flow red wine. Everything is in Spanish tho so it was hard for us to understand and fully immerse but still a fun experience overall.

700 pesos per person and we left hungry for the dinner/show on Saturday night. The food was OK, the experience/show was fun. They tell you to be there at 7pm, show and dinner didn't start until 7:45. If you don't speak Spanish, you're out of luck for most of the show. Rated 3 stars because they need to improve the good quality drastically. Otherwise, great location and really fun show.

I read the reviews before booking a table, and was confused: some said everything was excellent, some gave it 1 star and said it was horrible. So here is my opinion. The restaurant itself looks good: the medieval style, the building, the concept etc. The food was good, we ordered chipriones (I might’ve spelled that incorrectly) and meat. The wine menu has quite a few options, and prices are reasonable. I loved the dessert, I think it’s called crema catalana. Many have written that the service was terrible. From my experience, it was good, all waiters were polite and paid attention. Also, the tables are placed 2 meters or more away from each other and the utensils are brought in sealed packaging (a special thank you for the latter ??). If you’re looking for a Spanish restaurant in Mexico City, definitely give it a chance.
