Mex Rent a Car - 36270 Silao

Fraudulent Criminals! Firstly, the price I paid was SIX TIMES the quoted price - and the lines are customer service are abysmal. Then, I called and asked to return the car 2 days early (at risk of borders closing due to Covid-19). I sat on hold for 40 mins, but was told YES, I would get a refund. I returned the car early and had it all signed off with a rep. I was told that there was normally a FEE for returning early, but because I had called, they wouldn't charge. What?! Finally, I signed papers for a $30 refund. I continually checked my bank account. I had not received a refund. I had been charged another $130 a week later. It took 5 emails for them to tell me it was due to 'scratches'. I asked for photo proof - which was so small, I could not even tell where it was. I was being charged for someone else's damage! I had also NO word on the refund. It is not almost a month later. With calls from Australia and multiple emails to Ivette and customers service, I have had no response. Me quedé en espera durante 40 minutos, pero me dijeron que sí, que me reembolsarían. Regresé el auto temprano y lo firmé con un representante. Me dijeron que normalmente había una TARIFA por regresar temprano, pero como había llamado, no me cobraron. ¡¿Qué?! Finalmente, firmé documentos para un reembolso de $ 30. Revisé continuamente mi cuenta bancaria. No había recibido un reembolso. Me habían cobrado otros $ 130 una semana después. Se necesitaron 5 correos electrónicos para que me dijeran que se debía a 'arañazos'. Pedí una prueba de fotografía, que era tan pequeña que ni siquiera podía decir dónde estaba. ¡Estaba siendo acusado por el daño de otra persona! Tampoco tenía palabra sobre el reembolso. No es casi un mes después. Con llamadas de Australia y múltiples correos electrónicos a Ivette y al servicio al cliente, no he tenido respuesta. NO ALQUILER CON MEX! Des criminels frauduleux! Je me suis assis pendant 40 minutes, mais on m'a dit OUI, j'obtiendrais un remboursement. J'ai rendu la voiture plus tôt et j'ai tout signé avec un représentant. On m'a dit qu'il y avait normalement des frais pour revenir tôt, mais parce que j'avais appelé, ils ne facturaient pas. Quelle?! Enfin, j'ai signé des papiers pour un remboursement de 30 $. Je vérifiais continuellement mon compte bancaire. Je n'avais pas reçu de remboursement. On m'avait facturé 130 $ supplémentaires une semaine plus tard. Il m'a fallu 5 courriels pour me dire que c'était dû à des "rayures". J'ai demandé une preuve photo - qui était si petite que je ne pouvais même pas dire où c'était. J'étais accusé pour les dommages de quelqu'un d'autre! Je n'avais également AUCUN mot sur le remboursement. Ce n'est pas près d'un mois plus tard. Avec les appels de l'Australie et plusieurs courriels à Ivette et au service client, je n'ai eu aucune réponse. NE PAS LOUER AVEC MEX

They ruined our trip!!!! I know you’re reading all of the bad reviews thinking “that won’t happen to me”... well do yourself a favor and book through ANY OTHER RENTAL CAR COMPANY but them. You’d be better off walking. We rented a car AND insurance and paid in full 4 months ahead of our trip. We got a great rate ($400 for a week) on a 12 seater van. After reading the bad reviews, I was worried but called the day before to make sure they’d have our car and accept our insurance. He assured me they would. We got to the airport and checked in at the main desk... she highlighted our reservation and told us we would take a shuttle to pick our car up. it took 1.5 hours for the shuttle to take us to the next location where you actually get your car. From there we got in line - there were 5 people ahead of us. It took 2 hours to get to the front of the line. We got to the front and they told us they didn’t have any car for us, *because we showed up too late* (after they had us waiting on them for 3.5 hours) WHAT?!?!?! We checked in on time back at the airport!!!!!!!!!! I was so mad I was nearly crying, standing there with my 10 month old, 6 year old and 8 year old. He told me We could take a Kia car that Seats 5, or I could call customer service. (keep in mind - we are traveling with 10 people across the Yucatán peninsula with several stops planned along our journey). At last we decided we wouldn’t fit in a 5 seater car so we left the building - nearly in tears... when his co-worker comes to approach us and be our “rescue”. She says she has a van for us for the week.... for the low price of $1900 per week. WHAT?!?!?!?! what a scam!!! we cabbed it to the hotel in Cancun and we are now scrambling to find out a way to get to our next 4 destinations. This is a huge trip that’s been in the works for over a year (we started planning our trip pre-pandemic!) and they’ve single handedly ruined it.

Do not rent from this place. I have rented from several mexrent and have never had an issue. I rented an economy car with three weeks in advance and when i arrived they told me it was not available. He tried telling me that he had a larger and more expensive suv and thats the only vehicle i could rent. He told me that my reservation dosent reserve a car it only reserves the right to rent a vehicle from them.

I was very skeptical about renting a car at Bajio airport after reading all the reviews of different car rentals and the experiences people had. Well, thankfully, everything went great. We chose Mex Rent a Car. We arrived at the rental counter inside the airport and a gentleman confirmed the information and made a copy the passport. Also asked for the credit card info which the reservation was made. They called a shuttle bus to pick us up outside the airport. Took about 10 min for the driver to arrive. Once we arrived to the lot where our rental was, we went inside the trailer (booth) and was given the info about the rental as well as insurance. Insurance was optional, which we decided to get just to be safe! Never know when something goes wrong, especially in a 3rd world country. The insurance was more expensive than the car rental, but totally worth it in my opinion. You did have to leave a CC on file and they put a hold $75 if you get the insurance! Definitely don’t recommend getting insurance through the website. The best thing about is that it’s OPTIONAL. At least it was for us. The car was a Sportage Kia SUV (maybe 2020) and it was in great conditions. We had 5 checked in luggage’s and 3 carry ons (3 ppl total) and all luggage’s fit! Also, the guy walks with you around the vehicle to inspect it before you leave. Very kind. Here’s our break down: 12 day car rental Car rental through Expedia: ~$300 Insurance: ~$500 Gas: full tank when getting the car. Returned it half tank and that’s because we paid $27 to return that way. Overall, we were very satisfied with Mex Rent a Car. Definitely using them again if we have to use a rental agency in Mexico. Also, just to be safe, take pictures when your inspecting the car just to be safe. The car did have scratches and a dent (one which was pretty obvious) so we just took pictures. Thanks.

This review is for the Silao location (I noticed some of these reviews are for a different location). I didnt have any issues. Reserved the car in advance. There wasnt a lot of communication in between, but I got a personal call the day before to confirm (they are a bit hard to get a hold of, Facebook was what worked for me for questions). The pick up process was super smooth. They did offer the extra insurance, but I just declined it. The quoted price includes the required insurance, if you choose the extra insurance then that just takes care of the deductible, but it is up to you. No one tried to force me to buy the extra insurance (Im Mexican and speak fluent Spanish maybe thats why). They do put a hold on your CC since you dont get the extra insurance but thats normal for car rentals (at least outside the US). The car was what I reserved. It had some scratches but they were all marked during inspection, but take pics if you feel more comfortable. The car worked great, no issues whatsoever. When you return the car someone inspects it to make sure theres no new scratches and then they give you a ride in a big van to the airport (the pick up/drop off place is about 200m from the the airport entrance). Then you just go to the counter and give them the inspection sheet and they give you back your deposit slip (the hold on my CC was gone by the next day). Would definitely use them and recommend them if Im there again.

I would never rent here again. I made a reservation on their website and was quoted a certain price. When I got to the counter I was told I would have to pay way more than my reservation rate. Total ripoff.

DO NOT RENT HERE PLEASE. This place is a total scam! We had a 6 day reservation and ended up canceling. When we arrived they didn’t have our car. They said they weren’t going to have till 730 pm (even though we landed at 6am and were supposed to get it at 11am). They tried to get me another car but since it was going to be bigger they were going to charge me more. Then they insisted I needed their insurance (even though I had already purchased and insurance) and of course it was going to be more. We left and told them we’d be back to pick up at 7pm like they said. When we returned they then needed our passports which we didn’t have at the time. I informed them that I’d pick up tomorrow in the am. When we returned in the morning they said our whole reservation was canceled because no one picked up the night before! It was just a whole mess with them! Extra stress you don’t need! And can avoid! We ended up renting with BUDGET who made everything so much easier .
