We went to Mex Rent a Car after booking on Priceline which had our reservation confirmed days before ended up overbooking our car rental which was a huge inconvenience and issue for the helpful person Wilbert Novelo who was working. He went above and beyond to help us and work through our hiccup. Priceline on the other hand was not helpful at all. Wilbert was accommodating and worked so hard to help us get our car which was vital to our trip. I am so grateful he was working and showed us so much kindness. I would not recommend going through a 3rd party booking website but reach out personally to them to ensure they can guarantee your rental.

Second time using this store and a great experience. Booked in advance and got a great price (they had no stock left on the day, several people walked in and got turned away). Reserved the no excess insurance too which was a good price vs what I've seen elsewhere. Pickup process was quick and painless as was the drop-off and the guys working there were super helpful. Will be coming back here for my 3rd time!

Avoid at all costs! Our original booking cost around $100 for five days. When we went to pick up the car there was none available and we had to pay an extra $54 a day to 'upgrade'. We needed a car so did not have a choice. To top it all off, when we went to pay we had to pay in Pesos at a made up exchange rate! Worst car rental I have ever used

This place is a scam. Had prepaid a car for a week. Went to pick up said they didn’t have my car so would charge me 50% more for another. Refused to do anything about it and Luis was very rude and even turned off the A/C whilst I was on the phone trying to ensure a refund… Avoid at all costs. Update - a week later I’m still waiting for my money to be refunded but they’re not responding. Luis lied several times and said they hadn’t even charged me. Scam!

We went to get a rental for 3 days for our stay in Tulum. First the man laughed when I asked if there were any rentals for around $30-40, which is usually the price around here. He then told us 100x if there’s any problem on the car we would get charged and that insurance doesn’t cover accidents 100% (first red flag because he repeated it multiple times). We ended up getting a price for 3 days of renting. We returned the rental after one night because the headlights were terrible and we could not see a single thing at night. Then the man at the front desk said we would get charged for one night, but it would be slightly more for one night since we got charged for 3 days instead of one. That was fine, but then he says “let me call my boss actually…then said sorry I can’t return any money at all anymore”. So we paid over $250 usd/5,700 pesos for one night. They could let us know we’d be charged if anything happens to the car 100x, but cannot let us know once about cancellation policies or refunds. Terrible customer service and dishonest company.

My first recommendation is not to use any third party booking site like Kayak because they will continue to rent out cars that the rental places do not have because they only care about making money. When we came they did not have any cars but there were many people waiting for a reservation from one of these third party booking sites. We were so sad not to be able to get a car but fortunately we were dealing with Wilbert Novello and he was so kind and helpful and went out of his way to make sure we got into a car. We are so thankful for him and definitely would not have had a good experience without him

This place is a joke. Booked via Expedia, but when we got there, there was no car available. They had another model which we needed pay almost double for as it was an upgrade. This was our only option to continue our journey. Why would they not cancel bookings if there is no availability? Super unprofessional and have to still get my money back from Expedia. Another couple walked in not so long after, they were told that there was no availability at all, but the couple claimed to have already paid. Can you imagine? All with all, a shady and unprofessional business which I highly do not recommend. The many reviews here claim all the same, stay away.

This place is so untrustworthy. They try to squeeze you for extra cash with some lame insurance scam. If you want a good laugh, ask them to explain to you why you need full coverage insurance. They speak in circles and rely on the language barrier to deflect. In the end, I had to give them a deposit of US$100. It’s been exactly one month since renting from them, and I still have not received my deposit back. Save yourself the hassle. DO NOT use Mex Rent a Car.
