Mex Rent A Car - 77710 Playa del Carmen

FRAUD! Stay away! I travel a lot and rented cars many times in all over the globe, this kind of service or more accurately the complete lack of it I've never seen in my life! We made an online reservation through Expedia service, to prevent all doubts I use Expedia all the time - the problem has nothing to do with their platform. When we arrived to this branch with a confirmed reservation, the representative said that they don't have a car that we reserved. He said clearly that this is not the first time... We had already plans in our trip, we needed to get into our way, but we didn't have a car which we pay for. After arguing with him, he said that he cannot cancel our reservation. He said that we have two options (1) To call by our self to Expedia which is an international call, it cost a lot and we are there with a local limited SIM card. (2) We pay extra of additional 15 USD for each day (our reservation eas for 8 days) then he will get us another car. He refused to dial to Expedia him self, even that he is the one who doesn't deliver what the client already payed for. He also refuse to identify him self. Eventually we were needed to call police, which was another problem since we both (me and my wife) don't speak Spanish, luckily our concierge from Suites corazon helped us with it. The police forced him to identify him self. His name is *Nunez Paredes Manuel Enrique* Be aware of this place. Don't fall into this trap, there are many trustful rental agencies around. I don't know the Mexican laws (yet), but in our country it's illegal behaviour. It's a clear fraud. After I return home I will consult with my lawyer to sue this company, as their ruined our plans, resulted unnecessary money lost because of change of plans and obviously emotional aggravation.

Total scam. If there was an option to give them 0 stars, I would. Picked a car up from Mex in Chetumal and drove it to Playa del Carmen. The car had scratches all over it to begin with which we documented and took photos of. When we returned it to Playa del Carmen they charged me 2900 pesos for a scratch underneath the car that they say wasn’t documented. Who checks for scratches underneath the car???? After laying on the ground and looking underneath the car…..This scratch was definitely not new. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Scam. Refuse to honoured out Expedia reservation because they did not have the car but Made us pay to cancel it. Force us to take their insurance even though we had one.

This company is a joke. I had a reservation for a car at 9am and at the office they said they had no cars available, even though my reservation was in their system, and they had no way of getting us a car before noon. Avoid at all costs so your vacation isn't ruined.

Awful experience with this location in Playa! They wasted 2hours of my vacation time! => They are hidden somewhere in the lobby of a hotel that has whatsoever no signs telling you that the car rental desk is inside of it somewhere in the far corner of the lobby, and yes, it was literally the desk only. Had to call Mex Rent a Car customer support 3 times to find "the office" => I booked the car and pre payed it far in advance but the Mex Rent a Car representative was 1) trying to charge me for dropping of the vehicle in a different location and when I called the company I booked the car with Mex Rent a Car suddenly backed off but 2) started to tell me that I 100% need local insurance and I need to pay him extra $100 USD which was even more than what I payed for the whole rental !!! I left that circus and rented a car from a close by Hertz. Paid a bit more just because I didn't pre-booked it from them originally but their service was outstanding! Hertz representative advised that Mex Rent a Car rep just wanted to rip me off cause I was a tourist. Will not only myself ever rent a car from Mex Rent a Car but will certainly not recommend it to any of my friends who's often travel to Playa.

Avoid at all costs I booked a standard vehicle for pickup via booking.com(rentalcars.com). I come to the pickup an hour before and asked them when the car will be ready . They said the previous renter has not yet arrived and is unresponsive when tried to reach. Later I realized they double booked me (as they have to accept a booking confirmation when booking via booking.com or rentalcars.com) . I waited until it was time for pickup absolutely no help offered by the agents at MexRent A Car, they were busy watching videos on their mobile . Fortunately , hertz next door had a car I paid $75 extra and just took that car . Stick to hertz , Avis etc

We were absolutely satisfied with the service at MEX Rent a Car. To be honest I was quite nervous about renting a car in Mexico, but everything went well. I've read many blogs and articles, so based on that I was looking for a car with Total Coverage, 0% deductible, and found a great deal on MEX website. Both pick-up and drop-off were quick, easy (in Playa del Carmen), with kind and informative service, and we got a car in great condition. Deposit was back on my account few days after drop-off.

The prices were good -- the best I could find by far. I made all the reservations on-line with no problem, and the exact car was waiting when I arrived for pickup. I took all the insurance coverage (always do in Mexico), and the rates were reasonable. The car was as advertised, and was there when I arrived for pickup. The staff was prompt, friendly, and professional. No surprised. Return was a breeze -- maybe 2 minutes. Thanks for great service -- I will return!
