Mex Rent a Car - 97295 Mérida

Terrible company, highly DO NOT recommend!. For all tourists coming to Mexico, be aware of this company! We booked and already paid a car for 10 days via Rentalcars.com from the airport (Merida), we also got confirmation. But when we came to the office, they told us that they had no car available and we should rent anywhere else and didnt want to talk with us anymore but still offering cars for spanish speaking tourists coming from the airport. Also they didnt want to cancel that reservation on rentalcars.com. We had to rented car in another company that day with double price and did all the administration with Rentalcars which cost us extra money. Arrogant behavior, avoiding that company will save you a lot of money.

We were told the car was unavailable, although we had paid for it through a broker in advance (non refundable, of course). The car rental offered a more expensive option but this back-up option “required” a more expensive insurance. When we called the broker while in the rental office to let them know of the situation, the worker took my husband’s cellphone and walked away into a different room (he didn’t want to speak to the broker in front of my husband). He lied to the broker and said we didn’t have the proper documents to pick up the car, and that the “required” additional insurance for their back-up option was now “optional”. Luckily, both my husband and I were on the call, so even though the worker had taken my husband’s phone away, I was able to hear the conversation and jump in. The broker refunded us in the end, only because we were able to prove the car rental lied. But we are appalled to realize a car rental place will straight up lie to their brokers and scam customers who have already paid upfront.

Good price, easy online application, and service in English. Glad we didn't listen to the negative reviews here because we rented for 4 days and had absolutely no trouble. Easy pickup and easy return! Would recommend to anyone!

All I can say is that I would be very surprised if you don't have problems with them with either not the car you wanted being available and not on time or it costing you quite a bit more than what's on the voucher. This is the third time I have had the experience of this company and it's never gone smoothly. Their attitude from my experience is unaccommodating focused more on fleecing you than giving a good service

We’ve chose this car rental company to reduce the cost, on arrival we’ve been told that our car got rented out and we need to pay extra 100€ as we didn’t pick up on time and they do not have this one anymore. Be aware if you’re late 2h your car might not be there even if you payed for it upfront. Apparently it’s normal…

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!! Horrible experience, they tried to fleece us in every way possible they said we were late to pick up the car although I was within an hour of my booking, when I argued with her she started trying to ad more charges that didn’t exist, like not having a print out even though it clearly said you must bring a ‘digital copy’. The manager at the desk was really nasty and seemed to enjoy trying to find new ways to ad costs to our bill. Then she tried to say our car had been rented to someone else by this time so had to pay more for a more expensive car even though no one had been into hire a car in that time and I could see them all parked there. After this experience I used other car hire companies while travelling around Mexico and they were all great and honest, so just avoid Mex Rent a car the others are all fine.

Don't book with Mex!! We had the same story as in other reviews, we arrived to pick up our car which was reserved months ago, then told that they "ran out of cars'" and we could come back at 7pm (we were there at 10 am). Lady at the desk couldn't care less, very unprofessional. There were no other options so we had to cancel and book via another company (last minute so more expensive).

If you want a story to tell your friends and family, this is where you should rent a car. I rented the car for 1 day, at 11:40 they gave me the car key. On the rental paper the very nice lady at the reception said, they can deliver up to 1mp, excellent right? The next day it was 10am and they called our emergency contact 20 times that we should have returned the car and that we still hadn't. imagine the panic that your family at 14000km is aware that they don't know about us (we were without a network, because we were in the cenotes) and having a person complaining that they still haven't returned the car. Our family managed to contact us by whatsapp, all worried, we ended up calling the renting agency, which answers a lady saying that we should have returned the car, that she was going to charge us more, etc. conclusion: *we paid for the cenotes, and we didn't have the opportunity to go. *We lost the fuel in the car's tank, because they gave the car in reserve and it was almost half delivered. *There was no apology *They weren't willing to take us downtown. PS: on the website it says 500$, you can count on twice as much, when you finally get to the agency, because the proposal of 500$ is really bad, and they make another one that is almost double but that is really better in terms of conditions .
