The oldest and largest Cathedral in Middleamerika. Seat of the Bishop. A absolut impressive place in the middle of the city. Enjoy the Zocalo, the mainsquare, with the Indians in traditionell outfits or have a drink and watch all the live around.

I never got a good look at the cathedral because I was always driving past it, I never walked at the Zócalo. A few days ago, I finally did it and even got close to the cathedral. I was impressed with the intricate details and even walked inside to see a lot more. Here's the history of the cathedral, the Spanish built a church on top of the spot Aztecs considered sacred soon after the Aztec Empire fell to the Spanish in 1325. Construction of the grandiose cathedral began in 1573 using the stones from the nearby Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlán and was built around the original church, eventually replacing it. Upon closer look at the exterior, you can see how intricate the details are. The interior was equally rewarding with ornate decorations everywhere.

Beautiful church with some amazingly intricate facades, particularly on the east and south eastern faces. The surroundings are lively, definitely worth wandering around the area.

The facade of this church has a Gothic feel to it that reminds me a lot of European architecture. It is very spacious inside and it is hard to believe that the church stands where the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, once stood.

What a stunning place . Great architecture and views all around. Location is surrounded by museums and palaces. Full of activities all around it’s a must see attraction. Close to shops and restaurants. Conveniently located to bus and metro stations.

What can you say about this great beautiful church. It's a must see. You have a poison Jesus that people come to prey to help them with problems in the past. You have a sitting Jesus that people used to bring their offerings to the church. The organ music playing at certain times. The beautiful gold and detailed walls and holy place of worship. A must see while visiting Mexico City!

It is nice, but I felt the atmosphere was ruined by the big TV screens about COVID-19. We are all aware and there are guards inside to ensure nobody is breaking the rules. There is a side area that costs an extra few pesos and there is a guide to explain what you're looking at (in Spanish) and I would make sure to see that as well. Very clean and quiet. Everyone is respectful. Maybe I have just be to too many cathedrals just like this in other cities to be overly impressed. It wasn't bad or unimpressive by any means. I just wasn't blown away by anything in particular. It is certainly worth a look in if you're in the area. I think if you want the most out of it and are really interested in the art/history, hire one of the guides outside. We didn't do that. It only took us about 15-20 minutes to walk though.
