Es uno de los acervos más importantes de arte moderno de nuestro país; conserva y difunde las diferentes corrientes plásticas contemporáneas a través de sus exposiciones temporales.
Una de sus obras más representativas es el mural circular "Periplo Plástico" de Leopoldo Flores; en esta obra plasmó su visión de la historia de la pintura. Fue inaugurado en el año 2004.
La colección también está integrada por obras de autores mexicanos destacados como:José Clemente Orozco, Maria Izquierdo, Fany Rabel, Gabriel Fernández Ledezma, entre otros.
