On Tlahuac Avenue and closed on September 15, there are the remains of a paper mill and according to what a plaque mentions in the place, it dates from the 16th century and is considered the first paper mill in Mexico and America. According to the archaeologist who was in charge of safeguarding the remains and turning the place into a historic square, for the prompt conversion of the indigenous people to the Christian faith, the priests took on the task of requesting from Spain the construction of a paper factory, since this material took a long time to arrive from Europe to New Spain.
