The history of the chinelo precedes with huehuenche, the main character in the carnivals of central Mexico, emerged since the end of the seventeenth century, in celebrations of the peoples of the Nahua tradition throughout the territory of New Spain. The history of the Chinelo is an expression of the peasant culture linked to the haciendas as are other dances such as the arrieros, vaqueros, tecuanes, tlacololeros, etc. Those disguised in the region, sought to give an identity to their celebration; beginning to receive the denomination of tzinelohua, word of Nahuatl etymology that means "hip movement", deriving from it the contemporary name, chinelo. Another version, according to the teacher and native speaker of Tetelcingo, Tirzo Clemente Jimenez, in the Nahuatl language there is the word Chinele, which comes from the roots chichiltekque means red or red (referred to the Spanish by the color of its skin) and niele, an exclamatory expression of mockery, so it translates as "Oh yeah, that colorado is very much believed!"
