Este pueblo fue fundado en el año de 1410, bajo el nombre con que hoy se conoce, en idioma chontal fue conocido como Maadú.
Se localiza en la región del Istmo de Tehuantepec al sureste del Estado, en las coordenadas geográficas 95º36' longitud oeste, 16º24' latitud norte, a una altura de 190 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
Tequisistlan means "Place in sight of Tequezquite", it is made up of the Zapotec words tequisquitl: "tequesquite" and tlan: "next to or between". Magdalena was added in honor of the patron saint of the town.
This town was founded in the year 1410, under the name by which it is known today, in the Chontal language it was known as Maadú.
It is located in the region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in the southeast of the State, at the geographic coordinates 95º36' west longitude, 16º24' north latitude, at a height of 190 meters above sea level.
