Horario: Martes a Viernes 10:00 am – 6:00 pm / Sábados y Domingos 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
Excellent service and very friendly The history of the building that houses "El Palacio de los Gurza" and that for almost six decades (1953-2009), housed the newspaper "El Sol de Durango", dates back to the end of the 18th century and is described at that time as " an old, battered, adobe house.” At that time, the property was owned by María Gertrudis Javiera Barraza, wife of the Deputy Mayor of Santiago Papasquiaro. In the mid-19th century, the property was acquired by the brothers Luis and Antonio Gurza, both prosperous merchants and agricultural entrepreneurs of that time, who converted it into a Porfirian residence with large windows for tea time. This house, which was ordered to be built by Antonio Gurza López, was inhabited by the same family. They were political relatives of Francisco I. Madero and this same character in his visits to the city of Durango, resided here; Even here, he organized the Durango Antireelectionist Party to contest the 1910 elections. Later, perhaps due to the prevailing political climate in the entity, Antonio Gurza and his family emigrated to the country's capital, possibly leaving his nephew Miguel Gurza in the care of the property, who vacated it in 1938, when it was alienated. Hours: Tuesday to Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm / Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

Beautiful historical building, both outside and inside. It is a great place for the reading clubs and various events that take place here; main hall is sufficient for about 50 people.
