The Nuestra Señora de las Nieves parish located in the municipality of Palmillas, a town located in the semi-desert area of ​​the Tamaulipeco altiplano, formerly known as the fourth district, was built in 1777, which is why it is considered the oldest in Tamaulipas and perhaps the Mexican Republic.

The parish of Our Lady of Las Nieves, was built in the 18th century, it is rectangular in plan, and in the apse there is a baroque style altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the only one that exists in Tamaulipas. It is of great quality and worth seeing. On the access door (threshold) it conserves the original wooden choir with thick machete beams. And on the walls you can see a couple of oil paintings from the middle of the 18th century, made by some non-professional but very devoted painter. The Virgin of the Snows, is a rare dedication, which is reported to have appeared to a married couple and to Pope Liberius (1452-1466), announcing a snowfall in the middle of August. The building is imposing, with great height, and is surrounded by an atrial fence with the shape of triangles and ends in a peculiar way. On the facade it has three niches with sculptures in pink quarry of saints, little visible. It is a monument worth visiting, surrounded by a spectacular landscape of imposing mountains. The town preserves many of its historical buildings, maintaining the proper context for the temple.
