★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After my boyfriend quickly booked our trip on Expedia, I was nervous for our stay at O’Tulum especially after reading through reviews. However, our stay overall was fantastic!
We were originally in room 3, a pool view room on the ground floor. At the time they were repairing the fence, so having the drapes open 24/7 felt odd as guests and hotel staff walked past on the other-side of the pool. I was sad when we checked in as I was under the impression every room had a tub, only the honeymoon suite (room 10) does. The staff was nice enough to move us to room 10 later in our stay. This was a pleasant surprise as I was able to use the bath bombs I brought.
Each room has a pool on their balcony. They have jets, but they are not jacuzzis as they are warmed by the weather/sun NOT a heater. We weren’t able to use ours in room 3 or 10, as Tulum was on the cooler side average temperature 78 degrees Fahrenheit with a few rainy days. I understand not having heaters in the three large pools, but the private ones should be warm especially for nighttime use.
The beach is rocky as others have said. We drove to Playa de Tulum, we valeted the car for 300 pesos, & paid 500 pesos for a Cabana/ security watch of our personal items. No rocks & white sandy beach for awhile!
O’Tulum is not dirty. However poorly managed. The hotel takes alot beating from the beachfront ie the rust in the pools & the wood-work in need of touch ups. The house keeping does their best to tidy up. The hotel is short staffed, mostly seen in the restaurant at night.
The food was good. They have a few options for the complementary breakfast ( see photo attached). The orange juice is fantastic! The restaurant also has a lunch & dinner menu, I highly recommend the grilled octopus (photo attached of the dish too).
Now this hotel is secluded, off the main highway and down a dirty road about 20-25 minutes. You will need to rent a car! You’ll save money in the long run to take yourself to and from the airport in Cancun & on any daily outings or activities, because the taxi’s are extremely overpriced! On the bright-side the area of the hotel allows your stay to be quiet, relaxing, & more romantic! Compared to the hotel zones in Playa de Carmen, Tulum, or Cancun.
Lastly if you made it this far, the recommendations the one employee gave us were both awful! Ocean was overpriced & a total tourist/hippie restaurant. The other place he recommended is where we suspect we got food poisoning from Tropi Tacos.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visited the restaurant here twice during a visit in March 2022. Their fruit smoothies suck - 2 on a scale of 10 - but their margaritas warrant a score of 8+ on a scale of 10. We actually went back twice. The fresh quac and chips were excellent.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I wish I could like this hotel more. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt as this hotel is relatively new, only 12 rooms, and in an area that is still being developed. The hotel itself is darling. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and loved it. We were on the second floor and had an amazing view of the beach. Not sure I would stay in a room that didn’t have a view.
We flew into Cancun and stayed there for two days to break up the travel but next time we would go straight to Tulum. The restaurant has delicious and visually beautiful food. Unfortunately, my husband and I both got food poisoning from their food at different points in the trip. Really disappointing since we were in bed all day. Staff are great. The woman at the front scheduled doctors to come to our room for COVID tests (not free) before flying back to the US. Make sure to follow up with front desk if they don’t get to your email.
During our stay, construction took place next to us (a couple staying at the hotel were having their property constructed) and on top of the roof, it didn’t totally affect us other than the days we were stuck inside with food poisoning. It woke us up and was just annoying. The power went out several times but it was also common throughout Tulum for other businesses to be without power at times. We also weren’t able to access water (shower/faucet) for a few hours but they did give us a heads up. Next time we go to Tulum we will likely stay closer to downtown as it’s a 30 minute cab drive and $40 each way. Also the beach wasn’t the best compared to other areas in Tulum. It was super rocky with a lot of trash.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ O Tulum has a GREAT aesthetic and off the beaten path a bit (about 15-20min. minutes north of downtown Tulum). Mostly cute rooms (rain showers and personal pools!) and architecture. Staff were good and friendly. Beach view great, but actual beach access is very Rocky. Drinks and breakfast were good as well though drinks were surprisingly expensive (close to US prices).
Main complaints were that the whole hotel (rooms and amenities) wasn't the cleanest or most refined for a 4-star hotel. Algea in some pools, some dirt in random corners of the rooms, and Some parts look a bit rundown (understandable for the seemingly short staff). Not too many amenities compared to other 4-star hotels. (pool, bike, personal tub, complementary, but only 2 water bottles per day).
Also FYI covid tests were pretty expensive ($90usd) but I suppose you pay for the convenience (in room test).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hotel is a bit shabby, run down. Must have been great when built but now there are rusty traces in the swimming pool, our bathroom sink was dirty, we found plasters in the shower, etc.
The service is good, and they tried their best to provide us with vegan breakfast options (but there are only 2 so it becomes a bit repetitive after a few days).
On the plus side, the location is amazing if you’re looking for calm and romantic sunrises on the beach. The beach is a bit too rocky in front of the hotel but if you follow the beach on the left of the hotel for 15 mins you’ll find a decent sandy beach and easy swimming.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were the only travelers there and check in took nearly an hour. They make you sign a very long legal rental contract in order to stay there - very bizarre and I’ve never had to sign a lease to stay in a hotel before. We thought it was a type of scam honestly.
Since we had no where to go at our super late check in time, we just signed the sketchy contract and stayed. Aside from making us sign the weird contract, the hotel staff were super friendly and very accommodating and the stay was pleasant.
The views are incredible and the room was super clean, but there were small flies everywhere in the shower which was not great.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Run down facility. Would not return.
Slow service. Delayed check ins and not enough staff to manage breakfast despite the minimal amount of guests the hotel can house. Good is okay.
TONS of flies while we were visiting. You can't even hang by the pool comfortably without being bothered by them landing all over you.
The people were nice enough, particularly the young man that works at the front desk -great suggestions, super helpful and engaging.
It's located 25 minute drive from town and a bit further than we would have preferred even having rented a car. Quiet ocean front but it's rocky.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Disappointing,
We travel regularly, this is the first time we have had the feeling of a rip off!
The hotel debited us half of the stay on our credit card, while the contract stipulated only on site upon our arrival!
I am willing to pay 320€ per night, but the hotel has to live up to the price, it is not at all the case, 3 stars for this hotel.
The general condition of the hotel, the cleanliness is more than average compared to the photos!
There is a general management problem.
Yet the staff is very nice, waiter, welcome, the food is correct ...
