★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We visited Cozumel for the first time and decided to stay at Occidental based on the price and location. The resort is at the south end, which generally is more quite and with nicer beach. My first impression with the property is that the place is sparkling clean, from the hallway, general areas, dining areas, and the pool. Our room was service everyday and the crew did a fantastic job at cleaning. We felt very safe with the sanitary procedures here.
I would consider this resort as a boutique resort, since it's smaller than the ones we've stayed at before in Cancun and Riviera Maya coast. The 2 pools are small, and the beach area is quite small, with only about 30-40 chairs max.
The staffs are super nice and friendly.
My only complaint is the lack of variety on daily food options; we got bored of the food after 2 days. The specialty restaurants were not great either. The drinks were good compared to other all inclusive resorts; the bartenders try to be creative with their drinks.
There were not really any activities to do at night time.
Overall, if you enjoy quietness and a beautiful beach, this is the resort for you. If you want more food options and more festivities , there are other options

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awful place, would never recommend
Too many issues to list in one post. Why bother eating at an all inclusive when the food is awful. Breakfast buffet has mostly empty dishes, you have to circle like a vulture waiting for them to put new dishes and scramble as fast as you can before its gone in a few minutes. Lunch is glorified cafeteria food, left overs from previous dinner abound. You only get 2 meals in the "nice" restaurants per 5 nights of stay, you arrive and find most days are already booked. No main hot tub, you need to schedule a day in advanced to use the one they have, same with the "fitness center". No car rentals available but if I wanted to sit through a timeshare they had plenty. Hot water decent in the day but not at night. Toilets clogging. Maybe 10 years ago this was a good spot but its awful now, would not recommend to anyone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The staff was very kind and the weather was beautiful! Unfortunately, it was mostly buffet for food, which got a bit old after multiple days. Your resort package may only include a certain amount of reservations for the other restaurants. We were happy we had two with our. The main pool is very nice, staff is super accommodating. Room was clean and stocked with things we needed. We enjoyed our time overall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had the best vacation at Occidental!! Jesus and Pedro made the environment positive and engaged in activities. They were very fun. The bartenders were great and the service was wonderful overall. The beach and pools are beautiful! The rooms and cleaning stuff keep everything very clean. Would definitely return.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Caveat - we went on a day pass - we're not staying at the hotel.
Overall a little disappointed with our experience relative to the price.
First, the cost to get there from the cruise port was more than twice the cost estimate provided when we booked - $20 each way versus the $8 that we were told.
Upon arrival, we were treated very well by the reception and concierge staff. They signed us in, provided our identifying wristbands and gave us an overview of the property. No complaints here.
The grounds of the occidental are immaculate and beautiful. High marks for how well they are keeping it up.
They have two pools - an adults only and a very large 'everybody' pool next to the beach. Lots of chairs and places to sit and relax.
The beach is pre-populated with lots of lounge chairs and has quite a few palm trees that provide some much desired shade when the sun is intense. The beach is fairly narrow - I was told by a staff member that the last hurricane took a large toll on their beach. Overall, a nice place to lounge and do some light swimming - I recommend water shoes here because of the amount coral around.
The day pass is all-inclusive, so drinks and food are included. Once the pool and beach area became more crowded, getting drinks became too time consuming. Often times there was a line of 5 - 10 people waiting to order drinks from the line bartender at the pool bar, so 'all-inclusive' quickly becomes only a couple of drinks unless you want to spend an inordinate amount of time waiting in line.
As for food, the day pass includes access to their buffet lunch. Overall, this was just okay. The salad bar was well done, but the warm entrees were quite mediocre. While it's challenging to do excellent buffet fare, both my wife and I were unimpressed and thought the food on our cruise ship was superior to the offerings here.
Bottom line is that we ended up spending about $65 each (not including transportation) for the day. If we were spending a couple hundred a day for an all inclusive stay, I would be unhappy. As it was, we enjoyed our day but we probably won't be rushing back to the Occidental anytime soon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went with my wife and a couple of friends. Most everything was awesome! Service was great and very friendly. Pools and beach were well kept. Food was all very delicious, especially including the restaurants that you need reservations for. However, I would recommend creating reservations shortly after arrival so they don't fill up. Rooms were on the smaller side but very nice. However, hot water was scarce. In order to get a warm shower you need to shower in off hours. Early morning and mid-late afternoon are prime shower times and you will not get warm water.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I visited at the end of April, and had a spectacular time. We got the romance package room and the breakfast in bed, special dinner at sunset, and other touches were excellent! We had a romantic and fun week. The resort's food at times leaves much to be desired (cold & old, or just oddly made or corners cut). The entertainment and staff were out of this world! Our room was perfectly situated between the front desk/lobby bar/store and the beach. The wildlife was amazing and you really are staying in a jungle throughout the resort. I will return to Occidental properties as I have several times before.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a great family vacation the second week in January. The resort is beautiful and the service was excellent. Every member of the staff was always so friendly and helpful. We loved the beach and Alfredo the lifeguard. The rooms were big and comfortable. We were able to eat at all three restaurants and they were delicious. The wait staff in all of the restaurants and buffets went above and beyond to take care of you. I can't say enough good things about this resort and all the measures they took to sanitize and clean constantly. The staff are all very hardworking and take pride in what they do. We will definitely be back soon!
