Lous of trinkets and beachhead aimed at the tourist. Low prices, no fancy stuff

Lots of trinkets, and beachwear at cheap prices. Aimed at the tourist. Do not expect fancy brands though.

I couldn't stand all the pushy sales techniques. To many people coming at you at one time begging you to buy this or that. They don't take cards, so I wasn't able to purchase what I wanted.

This area becomes an open-air market on the days that cruise ships come in. The vendors come from all over the area to sell a variety of trinkets, souvenirs, and handy crafts.

Fun place to buy some souvenirs or beach clothing. They have a little but of everything you would find at souvenirs shops spread across the Yucatan. Seem to be catered to the cruise ship crowd. We visited on a day the ship docked. We got there just as they were setting up. If you go, be prepared for aggressive salespeople. They're trying to make a living like everyone else, and some are really good. Do not pay full price. This is a perfect spot to negotiate. At one point, we had two vendors trying to outbid each other selling us some sugar skulls. Crazy Fun! If you see the guitar player in the wheel chair, talk to him. He speaks very good English and is from Merida. He's a cool guy who makes his living playing. You can catch him most nights on the plaza in Merida.

I do believe I was sold fake caiman boots. They assured me they had fake/stamped leather boots on other side of store for half price of these but that these were the real deal. We were rushed with ship leaving in 15 minutes so it was fast paced trying on several pair for style, size and color, maybe it was just a mix up but after determining that I needed a 11.5 in lieu of a 12 in this particular style_brand boot I also left there with a size 12 that I had told them was just a little big is why I couldn't get the color I actually wanted. My reasoning for thinking fake is consistency of patterns on both boots are identical. Bait and switch or honest mistake. I'm not sure....
