Just a few miles outside of the city of Oaxaca, in the village of El Tule lies the best campground we've stayed at in our Central American overland expedition. And its so special because of the spirit of the owners, Leanne and Calvin and the spirit of the Overlanding travelers visiting this awesome little place. When you visit the OO you'll meet some really amazing folks from all over the world on bikes, tents and all sorts of weird rigs. Be sure to stop there again on your way back north !

I had been recommended the Overland Oasis by some other travellers and decided to look into it, Luckily, they had space for a couple of days. Loved it. Nice relaxed atmosphere and practically every need catered for. Wasn't sure where to go or what available, but the hosts were a fount of knowledge on things local and even further away. All my questions were answered satisfactorily. Definitely would recommend and plan to go back myself sometime soon.

One of the most welcoming and warm places we stayed on our travel around the world. It´s literally an oasis when you need to relax and get new energy for further travelling and projects. We stayed there for two months! Calvin and Leanne are extremly helpful and lovely people, they helped us out with spanish translations, repairs and a lot of organizing stuff and we just had a great time there. It´s a hotspot for overlanders, so as you can imagine, we shared millions of stories, asados and cervezas. ;-) Big recommendation. Cheers Bea & Helmut

The word Oasis is far from overplayed at this wonderful traveller hangout. Hosts Leanne and Calvin would invite you into their house, were it not for the fact they actually live in a super cool old bus under a large roof with kitchen and cosy free standing fireplace. (Trust me, if you are the type of person to stay here you will appreciate what a fantastic idea that is). That said, you are invited into their home (a small well kept outdoor space for a few overland vehicles with an added cabana and space for a tent too) and it's rare to feel as at home as you do here. There is limited space so book ahead. The vibe is nice and friendly and we met some great people while staying there. They can be a Godsend for anyone needibg stuff delivered and if you have a vehicle project Calvin is literally the perfect person to get it done ... He even shares my 'particular' attention to detail. The location is perfect, a nice quiet street just off from the El Tule main drag, plenty of decent food options and family run lavenderia just around the corner. Animal.lovers will appreciate the couple of 'keep themselves mainly to themselves' felines and the adorable pooch, Cygo, who takes mild mannered to hitherto unheard of extremes. We planned to stay two nights, managed to drag ourselves away on day 8. It's the Hotel California of the Oaxaca area. Don't miss it.

A great place to stay. Leanne & Calvin are great hosts who give excellent advice on what to check out in the town. Calvin's handy work was needed multiple times during our 1 week stay and we will be forever grateful for that! Thank you thank you and we cannot wait to come back someday.

You’d be crazy to pass up staying here! I’d give it 6 stars if I could. The easy access to the city, cozy camping conditions and absolutely awesome campsite hosts (Calvin and Leanne) make this place suuuuper hard to leave. I should know, my girlfriend and I only planned to staying a night or two, we just kept coming back and probably have spent close to two months combined! Easy to get packages, awesome place to network with other travelers, and sometimes, if you Can coax Calvin, it’s a great place to knock out a few projects. ;)

Highly recommended! What a great find this was for us: quiet and secure at night, hot shower, clean bathroom, and reliable wifi. Located in El Tule (where the 2000+ year old tree is), it's very easy to get to Oaxaca center by bus (7 pesos) or taxi. Several good restaurants and a very pretty plaza within walking distance as well. Calvin and Leanne really make it their mission to make all guests feel welcome. We really appreciated their warm, genuine hospitality. (We had only planned to stay for 1-2 days, ended up hanging around for nearly 2 weeks!) A very enjoyable, relaxing experience. NOTE: You should definitely call/email ahead before showing up as space for campervans, RVs, etc., is limited.

I highly recommend staying with Leanne and Calvin! We are two Canadians traveling by motorcycle (tenting) and it was wonderful! They were so helpful, providing tons of information about the area and Mexico in general. They are very knowledgeable, because they themselves are overland travellers. Definitely call or email in advance since there are limited spaces. If you are in the Oaxaca area, look no further for accommodations. This is a gem!
