A very nice and quiet place, the people who sell in this place are very attentive. They explained to us the making of the Jipi japa hats. From cutting the plant to the finished product. Affordable prices.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a small place on the way back to Mérida, they sell this very special hats made with a fibre called jipi-japa. They elaborate them inside of a cave, it can take them weeks to weave one piece. The town is very poor and the residents live solely from tourism, you can even visit the cave where they work.
The quality and beauty of the hats is beyond question.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A small place with a fascinating little tour-- go into the back and ask them to show you how the family dyes their products before weaving them, then go down a few steps into a cave to watch hat weaving, then watch them be pressed into shape using machines built by their grandparents. Restrooms in back, cash, hats of all wuskity and smaller items for sale, handy convenience store next door.
