★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was lucky enough to be there 12th December for the Feast of the Virgen of Guadalupe and it was bedecked in Feliz Navidad joy too. Great people watching. Lots of indigenous maya selling handicrafts, well shaded and there is a cute church. There are basic food stalls although the food wasn't nearly as good as other places. Also, I got horrible food poisoning from one of the restaurants (that have their back to the church and face the square) after a tasteless and overpriced soup so don't recommend them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Parque Central has a catholic cathedral its beautiful but you can also see monkeys in the trees. Next to the stairs are restaurants that are inexpensive and delicious I eat platano relleno for only 75 pesos a our 3 dollars . Get one it's yummy. You can eat for cheap and enjoy the plaza view also take pictures with the palenque sign. Pretty safe and people is friendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love palenque. Im white with blue eyes and felt not only safe but very welcome.
You can catch a colectivo to the ruins and other attractions from here to keep it inexpensive. I like the ruins and the waterfalls are cool to swim in. Its not like chichen itza were vendors are everywhere and can be aggressive. Here there are a few and they are very mellow. The street food and the restaurants are good and inexpensive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The buzzing heart of a buzzing colonial style city. A great place to sit on a bench under the trees and people watch. We liked it best over a late breakfast..grabbing eats from a local bakery and a coffee from a bar at the top of the square. There's also live music from the bandstand in the evening..
