Fue hasta el 29 de octubre de 1860 que el pueblo recibió el nombre de Villa de los Libres, debido a la ocupación de las fuerzas liberales, tres años antes por el General Miguel Castulo de Alatriste. El 22 de noviembre de 1989 recibió la categoría de ciudad, por lo que a partir de entonces cambió su nombre a Ciudad de Libres.
Si transitas en la carretera Veracruz-Puebla, podrás ver la localidad, muy cerca de la desviación a Teziutlán.
San Juan de los Llanos became part of the state of Puebla in 1824. It was until October 29, 1860 that the town received the name of Villa de los Libres, due to the occupation of the Liberal forces, three years before by the General Miguel Castulo de Alatriste. On November 22, 1989, it received the status of a city, so it changed its name to Ciudad de Libres.
If you transit on the Veracruz-Puebla highway, you will see the town, very close to the deviation to Teziutlán.
