★ ★ ★ ★ ★ El lugar que hoy ocupa el templo fue utilizado como panteón principal de la ciudad, hasta mediados del siglo XVII. Por estos tiempos, el padre Lorenzo de Olivera dispuso del predio para la construcción del templo, el cual se consagró en el año de 1689. Inicialmente se destinó como ayuda de parroquia, y en 1893 el arzobispo Eulogio Gillow lo declaró parroquia.
La fachada principal del templo contempla una portada, en medio de todo el paramento que comprende las torres, con pequeños campanarios, y el imafronte decorado con roleos. La portada es un grupo de vanos y nichos, cuatro en total, en orden ascendente y de proporciones decrecientes; todos ellos enmarcados por pilastras lisas con capitel toscano y sencillos entablamentos.
The place that today occupies the temple was used as the main pantheon of the city, until the mid-seventeenth century. At this time, Father Lorenzo de Olivera had the land for the construction of the temple, which was consecrated in the year 1689. Initially it was used as parish help, and in 1893 the archbishop Eulogio Gillow declared it parish.
The main facade of the temple contemplates a cover, in the middle of all the wall that includes the towers, with small bell towers, and the imafronte decorated with volutes. The cover is a group of bays and niches, four in total, in ascending order and of diminishing proportions; all framed by smooth pilasters with Tuscan capital and simple entablatures.
