Desde un inicio, se pensó en construir como un convento de monjas en honor a Santa clara.
El templo fué fundado poe el patronato de doña Isabel de Villanueva Guzmán.
Los papeles de fundación se firmaron el 31 de mayo de 1607.
Tiempo después, en 1711 un terremoto dañó la estructura y se inició la restauración para llegar a ser la iglesia que actualmente vemos, la cuál fue abierta el 12 de agosto de 1714.
Esta iglesia se distingue por la producción de confituras por parte de las monjas del lugar.
Incluso de ahí nacieron los conocidos "camotes de Santa Clara"
Es estilo herreniano
Y recomiendo que vayan ya que es un lugar muy bonito y turístico.
