With Gigi we spent a lovey time and he introduced us to the beauties of this special land (with knowledge and soft skills): we discovered the CAVE Cenote in an underground river, we explored the SIAN KA’AN natural biosphere, we did a trip to the stunning CHICHÉN ITZÁ pyramid, we jumped into the IK KIL CENOTE, and we purified our soul with the TEMAZCAL ceremony! We enjoyed every single moment of this beautiful experience that it will always belong to our hearts! ????

We contacted Pink Flamingo Gay Tours just for a round trip airport transfer from CAN to Playa Del Carmen as we were only on holiday for a short weekend. We wanted a local gay insight to the area to offer recommendations, safe places and must do’s on our quick weekend getaway. We were promptly greeted once outside the shark tank (don’t hire strangers) by Darwin, “tour guide” and Erwin “the driver”. We immediately felt ‘comfortable in our own skin’ and less weary about being gay outside our home country. Darwin was so knowledgeable about everything to do in Cancun and Playa, both gay and straight places, and during our airport transfer the conversation flowed so naturally that the 40 minute ride to our hotel seemed much shorter. Our only regret is we didn’t have enough time on this trip to take advantage of any tours but we will for sure book some adventures on our next visit!

Recently I was in Playa del Carmen. Between remote work and enjoying the beach, I wanted to explore what else the region had to offer. A friend clued me into Pink Flamingo Gay Tours as an alternative to more traditional tours, with a focus on unique experiences in an environmentally and socially conscious way. Also, although I am trying to better my Spanish, it was important to have an English speaking guide so that I could absorb as much information as possible. Pink Flamingo did not disappoint! Scheduling was easy. I sent a quick text via WhatsApp, was provided information on a number of available tours, and decided on an excursion to Sian Ka’An Biosphere. Luigi (Gigi), our guide, picked me up exactly as stated and we were off. The biosphere was spectacular. Although less than perfect weather made it unsafe to snorkel in the reef, there was plenty to explore. We saw mangroves, colorful channels to the ocean, manatees, dolphins, crocodiles, a turtle and more birds than we could imagine. We stopped at “La Piscina” before a nice island lunch. Crystal clear turquoise waters that didn’t even seem real. Gigi shared lots of facts about the wildlife and environment, and satisfied my curiosities by responding thoughtfully to my many questions. All in English, and translated into Italian to be sure the other guests were included! The tour piqued my interest in the region, and I plan on doing more and more exploring (with Pink Flamingo if at all possible). Gigi later arranged a Temeskal and I excitedly joined. We went to a Mayan village deep in the jungle and participated in the ancient healing ritual. A once in a lifetime experience.
