Pinturas Rupestres - San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán

A trail to the cave painted in prehistoric times starts here, though you would never know it, and its easy to get lost since there is another well worn trail that just goes right down to the road again and some erosion of the trail because of water, then a cactus fell over part of it too, and its overgrown in parts. They are currently paving the dirt road from town- so it will be easier to get to- but someone should care a little more about their past before jumping into the future. Guided tours from town including transportation would be wonderful and help employ locals, however not much is known about it since its not been studied scientifically. You can also walk here from town- it took me about 2 hours going slow- but its very pretty and spectacular hike with wonderful views of the valley, river and town. They put in a concrete side channel into the road right where the trail starts and there's a little hill to a flat spot. Then go to the right, not left. Bring water and a cell phone with a map loaded onto it, but please pack out your trash.
