One of the most interesting Maya sites in Yucatan. The circuit shows several diverse buildings and pyramids with many sculptures and you meet a lot of reptiles on the place too. Plan at least 90 minutes but you can stay here much longer especially if you decide to see some remote monuments.

The tallest structure at Uxmal this pyramid is an iconic structure in Maya architecture. It possesses an unusual elliptical plan with three enormous platforms that support two temples. It is thought that the shape of the pyramid is supposed to reflect the shape of a traditional thatched Mayan roof. It is also noteworthy that the pyramid is 115 feet tall which makes it 17 feet taller than the celebrated El Castillo at Chichen Itza. The two faces of the pyramid are very different. The Eastern face is plain with a monumental simple staircase, while the western face is ornately decorated with two temples crowning it, both sculpted in rich detail. As far as I know it is the only structure at Uxmal that tourists are not allowed to climb.

Definitely préférer this Pyramid comprend to Itza. It’s a bigger site and more impressive
