This place is amazing. Amazing decor, super staff and the food.... delicious and intriguing on every level! Go there. Take the taster menu and try to find out what you are eating without looking at the menu.

Pirata is a beautiful combination of exquisite service, thoughtful pairing and complexity in flavor that takes you on a journey of the pallet where emotions are evoked and taste is distinguished and savored. It is unlike anything I have experienced in its level of intention and will be an experience I will cherish for a long time. It was perfect.

It's been one of the most amazing experience in food and drinks. I really recommend it 100%. Travis does a amazing job in all the flavors and Ana it's amazing in her cocktails. I will never forget this experience.

Unique experience of fresh clean flavors, only local organic produce used in the most clever way utilizing the newest cooking techniques, an amazing journey through the oaxacan savour. Suited for experienced palates!

Aptly named as after eating here I felt like I had been looted. The design of the space is lovely and minimal; great furniture, nice dishes, the atmosphere is a bit dark, like being held in the hold of a ship. The food was so poorly executed that I couldn’t help but wonder if it were a joke. The menu was a lot of fruit- so much repetition of papaya and hoja santa,- but the presentation did nothing to enhance or showcase their flavors. The moles were undercooked and bitter. The cocktails overpowered the bland food. We were the only diners but when we asked if they would turn down the music they said no. The only protein in the meal was a few small pieces of parrot fish (which is a tropical reef fish- probably protected) and a small bowl of undercooked white beans. The last 3 courses, before a bowl of cacao for dessert, were just fruit and while the menu was meant to showcase local products it was void of several items that would have enhanced this experience. At the end of the meal we were presented with the menu but when we asked questions the waiter did not seem to possess the knowledge to answer them. I would rarely write a poor review but this was so overwhelmingly disappointing and left me starving. I had to go home and make a snack.

We had a wonderful experience at Pirata! The overall concept and atmosphere is great—hyper-local food with an imaginative twist, all served from a blind tasting menu (meaning we didn't know what we were being served until after the meal was done). We spent the majority of the evening discussing the flavors and guessing the ingredients of each course and the accompanying cocktails. We were impressed with the presentation, the service, and the unique combinations of flavors. It was very unlike anything else we have had in Oaxaca... or anywhere! Please note: they deliberately do not use a lot of salt or sugar, and this may feel foreign to people who heavily incorporate these ingredients in their food. But this allows the other ingredients to shine, and we highly recommend giving it a try!
