★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Plaza Central is an amazing place, it goes on and on, and at some point as you wander through and around it, you end up in a huge bus station, la Central Camionera of Oaxaca!
It's always heartbreaking to see little kids selling trinkets in public, and you'll see such kids here. One tried to sell me some refrigerator magnets. Instead, I bought a spare comb at a stand nearby for 10 pesos to keep as my spare comb. You probably don't know how hard it is in Mexico to suddenly buy a comb wherever you find your comb has been lost.
There's a giant stand here of yellow-press publications and magazines of dead bodies. If you're stuck sitting all day with a pile of squash you're trying to sell, you'll be heartened to see the unexpectedly dead lying about having a worse day than you.
