This small but quaint room was very clean and offered a small balcony to ourselves and a larger to share with others. Breakfast was included in the room rate and it was enjoyable. The location was ideal if you enjoy walking and seeing the sites of Oaxaca. The hotel also informs you of daily events and can organize tours.

Nice shady spot for a siesta. The church was cool too if you’re in to that kind of thang. Popsicle man has some good strawberry pops too

First of all, that yellow castle as the thumbnail for the property is not the hotel. It’s a small 2 floor bldg with boutique type of rooms, definitely 2.5 - 3 star. There’s a market 1 block away that’s a hidden treasure that no one mentions. Stay clear of the 3rd floor. Staff is great.

The staff is really helpful and the location is great. Everything in Oaxaca's downtown is at walking distance

RUN AWAY !!! I stayed in this hotel during two nights and the last day I went out in the morning for a walk before the check out and someone broke into my room and took my money in my stuff. When advised, the "boss" has insulted us saying we are liars. They don't care about people. They manage their hotel like any other business. They don't host you, they just make you pay, smile at you and then rob you. I can see in the comments it happened to other people, so I'm not crazy. WORST HOTEL EVER.

Booked for 5 days had to leave after 1. I'm just giving my honest review. If you don't mind any of this, and are just looking for a cheap stay. This could be your place, but for us this was not an ideal stay. We were placed right next to the lobby and people were so loud in the courtyard all night. Our only window faced the lobby/courtyard with only a sheer curtain so people could walk by and see us in our bed. To make things worse the photos didn't align with the room we got, there was a pigeons nest in our bathroom window and cockroaches constantly running under the 2” gap under our door. When we were checking out the next morning (3 hours before check out time) we had told them about our issues and they still wanted us to pay. We had to firmly tell them to refund us for the remainder days to which they refused but then agreed to PayPal us the 4 other said but then shorted us 75$ and charged us the transfer fees. Breakfast isn't included, the wifi speed is 1.5mbps, however it's in a good location.

DON'T GO THERE! there are thieves among the staff. They entered to the room while I was out and steal my money and airport documentation. I reported to the manager and they DID NOT allow us to check the security videos with the excuse they've done it before and videos showed nothing. I left the hotel the 2nd night (I was supposed to stayed a week) because it didn't feel like a safe place and they didn't process my refund so I guess they took my money twice. Please don't go to this place, IS NOT SAFE

I had a scary and ultimately extremely disappointing experience with this hotel. Oaxaca City is a truly incredible place, and the one drawback to my stay was the experience here. I rarely leave bad reviews and for the first time ever I’m posting it on two sites (here and TripAdvisor) because it was so negative. I stayed several nights at Posado Don Mario, and because the hotel isn't staffed during the night (which I completely understand!) each guest is provided a key to enter through a side door at night. I did so easily, and without issue, every night of my stay until the final stay, when I returned home from a friend's house and was not able to enter the hotel through the side door with my key, as I had on previous nights. Several people in the street came to try to help and use the key, all of them informed me it was not working because the door seemed locked from the inside. I knew how to open this door from my previous nights at Posado Don Mario, when I entered it without any problem, and I could also feel that the door had been locked from the inside. This is simply unacceptable. Whether the lock on the door was messed up or someone had bolted it inside, the hotel needs to take immediate action to ensure this does not happen again. I stood and knocked for about half an hour in the middle of the night, and I rang the bell repeatedly. No one came to help me. I was standing at the door until midnight and it felt like a dangerous situation and I was very scared. I am a woman traveling alone and I did not know where else I could go in the middle of the night to safely sleep, therefore I remained alone in the dark knocking for a long time, hoping that someone would come and open the door. One of the hotel staff had been sending personal texts to me at the phone number I was asked to give upon check-in (this was also problematic and very unprofessional). I was able to access the wifi and send him several texts about the situation and that I would have to find somewhere else to sleep. I informed him later that I slept at Casa Angel and paid 378 pesos to do so. He made no offer of a refund. The situation was distressing not only because it was unsafe and I did not know where to go, but because my cell phone was dying, my charger was in my room, I had none of the clothes or things I needed to sleep (it was very cold), and because I needed to retrieve my passport at 6 AM to take a COVID test in order to make sure I could fly to the US the following morning. Because I could not enter the building, I did not know if I would be able to retrieve my passport in time to make my test appointment and therefore to take my flight. I was up all night freezing, and worrying. I essentially paid Posado Don Mario to be locked out of this hotel and stuck out on the street at night without my belongings and then walked somewhere and paid again to sleep in a bunk bed instead of my own room. I shared all of this information with the hotel via email seven weeks ago and have heard no reply.
