The architecture is eccentric, the rooms comfortable, the employees very nice and it's right in the middle of town

Outstanding place to stay. Very reasonable rates. Friendly family run hotel in the heart of town very close to the main square

Closed at all times, they won't let you see the rooms even if you want to stay in. Over priced. And unfriendly staff. You can get better rates and better rooms in other places. Lack of creativity, poor customer service.

Perhaps we have bad luck but the administrator (Mr. Andrés) was rude and hostile, thought this place is one of the most expensive of Xilitla. However, the facilities are amazing because it is a Edward James heritage. We are a little sad because we think this guy has a discrimination issue because we are national tourist.

The hotel used to be home of Plutarco Gatelum and Edward James, therefore it shares the style of Las Pozas park. The "themed" rooms are ok, clean and ordered, however the bathrooms are pretty small and electric sockets are often lacking or in inconvenient places. Wi-fi absolutelly sucks, mostly available only in the entrance chairs in the hallway. The pool is cold but refreshing from the humidity or the hot climate. The view from whichever terrace is stunning, allowing for a perfect view of sunset and sunrise. People are willing to help you, and breakfast is nice. The overall status of the hotel is ok, it need a lot of remodels. But bearable for a different experience

We had a very undesirable experience. The personnel/employees stole more than $500/$1,000 US dollars from our room while we were out. They were extremely kind and provided us with exceptional service knowing that they took advantage of us and our trust in them. When they were confronted they simply said they weren’t responsible and that they’re cameras were ruined by lightning and they couldn’t provide us with proof. But after we threatened them to going to the authorities they indicated that they would find a solution to the problem and immediately reimbursed us the $500 dollars. They knew it was more than $500 dollars but immediately returned our call and wanted to reimburse us the $500. They tried to resolve the problem by only giving us half of what they stole. Please don’t ever stay there. They will take your hard earned vacation money.

Posada EL Castillo, home of Gastelum family and Edward James in Xilitla. As the owner said on our first day - it is not a luxury hotel. And it is true, it is an old (and on a cold day in January - cold) house, but it is almost as much of an attraction in itself as Las Pozas. With original art, wooden forms for Las Pozas, and eclectic and weird architecture of the house, this is a place you would never forget. Place is still managed by Gastelum family who remembers Edward James, uncle Edward. Luisa, the granddaughter of Plutarco Gastelum, speaks great English and can arrange all the tours with the best people. The house also has a mural by Leonora Carrington. Rooms are spacious and clean, breakfast is plentiful and very tasty.
