El parque está construido alrededor del pozo de Chen-Pec (en maya) o pozo del perro, sitio donde en 1517 los extranjeros españoles bajaron por agua y fueron emboscados y derrotados por primera vez en América al mando del férreo halach winik o gobernante maya Moch'Ko'Woh en virtud a esta batalla a Champotón se le dio el título de "Honra de América"
Este pozo se cuenta que conecta con otros 4 más en las profundidades a través de unos caminos subterraneos que atraviesan la ciudad.
Es un sitio de visita si te apasiona la historia, es muy céntrico a solo 2 cuadras del parque principal.
