Huites es una presa de 3 millones de metros cúbicos de concreto con un sistema de postrefrigeración y con inyección de juntas para formar un único bloque. La presa consta de una cortina de concreto convencional, de sección gravedad, con 166 m de altura y 444 m. longitud de corona; obra de control y excedencias, y el desagüe de fondo. Destacan los trabajos de post-enfriamiento a través de 7 campos de inyección, controlados desde 5 niveles de galerías. José Gómez da Silva originario de Sao Paulo, Brasil fue el ingeniero encargado de este proyecto. Inaugurada hace 22 años en esa época fué la obra más moderna del mundo no solo de México pues se tenían 4 plantas de concreto y se hicieron 1500 metros cúbicos especialmente para la presa, de las plantas de concreto iba por bandas transportadoras y se hechaba directamente en sitio, eran 3 bandas de 800 m, con un brazo articulado con el que se colocaba el hormigón de concreto. Fue la primera en el mundo con un sistema totalmente mecanizado. Se colocaron 240 mil metros de concreto en un mes y 2 millones de concreto en un año. Fué una tecnología muy importante para su época. Para poder entrar, necesitas pedir permiso a la autoridad correspondiente que en este caso son los guardias ó policías de la CFE, debes ir a la garita a solicitar el permiso y si te lo conceden podrás subir a la cortina, aunque debo decirles que está estrictamente prohibido grabar VIDEOS, y tampoco puedes tomar fotografías en diversos sitios de la presa, solamente puedes tomar fotografías en ciertos puntos de la cortina de la presa(Algo que parece exagerado, pero ellos dicen tener motivos para prohibirlo).
