★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Failed to pick us up at our hotel as planned. 35mins after original pick up time, they told us they wouldn't pick us up and we had to take a taxi to the dive center. Time and money wasted on this. Then original instructor disappeared and we got a last minute switch. Rented gears from another dive shop (and forgot to rent a weight bell), another waste of time and dangerous as dive guide asked me to pull all weights in my stabilizing jacket to dive in cenotes. Due to vertical position at times, these could fall. Before diving and after having wasted 3 hours, the moody last minute instructor threw an easy fit and didn't want to let my friend dive. After tense argument, we finally made it. Most stressful diving experience in my life. I will never dive with these guys again. Bad organization, dangerous and bad vibes. Cenotes were great though but pick another dive shop.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I saw students Patrick had trained at my local Northeast lake Dutch Springs. Beautiful trim, streamlined Al sidemount tanks, high level of team awareness. It wasn’t the first time I heard of Protec. I went down to take multi stage cave, and even as an instructor was challenged and learned a lot. If I ever get lazy and use even a finger to touch the platforms to move around, I hear Patrick telling me not to touch his cave, which extends even to the logs in the spring run. I thought I came with a good back kick, and was shown how to actually make it a good back kick (and had to pull Patrick by back kicking, with 3 tanks on each). If you want solid training, this is where to go. Don’t expect a participation trophy if you are not up to a high level of standards, and expect to walk away knowing there is more you don’t know. I still dive with Protec guides and still take classes with them. 10 stars out of 5 possible stars.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My boyfriend and I just completed two days of guided cavern diving with Elliott at ProTec. The experience far exceeded our expectations both in the spectacular nature of cenote diving and the high quality of the guiding!
PRE-TRIP COMMUNICATION:
The team was highly responsive to all of the emails we sent inquiring about what cavern diving options there were for people with our skill level (we are new to the sport and had 21 dives each with our NAUI OW and AOW certifications), what gear we were bringing, what we could expect, and what time we should meet at the shop.
THE DIVING:
Each dive included a very thorough briefing regarding the hazards of the dive, the route, what we could expect, and a review of the hand and light signals we would use. This was super helpful as we’d never gone diving in overhead environments before. On the first day, Elliott took us on two dives and assessed our skill level to determine where we would dive on the 2nd day. It was incredible and magical to see the light filtering in, see bats in the bat cave, fossils, and the variety of landscapes underwater.
THE GUIDING:
ProTec specializes in training people to become cave divers and this shone through in our tour experience. Elliott is passionate about cave diving and ensured that we had a safe and fun dive while being respectful of the environment. He was very thorough and observant and gave us a lot of tips to help us level up on our scuba skills as new divers. He also gave us the names of some tasty restaurants to try out that were excellent!
We enthusiastically recommend diving with ProTec if you want to explore the cenotes with cave diving specialists! We had such an excellent time that we want to return after further improving our buoyancy and finning techniques to do the sidemount and the intro to cave diving trainings.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I cant say enough about the coaching I received at proTec! Like the rest of the staff, Jake - my coach - was impeccable. His focus on my weak spots as a new cavern (soon to be cave) diver were spot-on and his methodology for correcting them was very effective - he was very patient in helping me correct as many of those issues as we had time for. Just as entertaining were the stories of some of the caves and rooms Jake and Patrick have explored around the world. The skill level of divers here is the best I have ever seen in any dive shop. Just diving with them is inspiring - gives me a new level of diving to aspire to (some day).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had an amazing time with these guys. Did the first half of the week up here in Playa with them. From the moment we walked in they made us feel welcomed, settled, and, after a tour, made sure we had everything we needed for our cave dives that week. Our guides were friendly and helpful and gave us some great advice and local info on the systems we were diving aswell as the local area.
