Es el punto más meridional del estado de Oaxaca y un importante lugar de paso para las aves migratorias y mamíferos marinos, como las ballenas. (Encontrarás a muchos que te ofrecerán el tour para verlas). Hay también una pequeña playa virgen llamada Mermejita en el lado oeste. Es una Reserva Eco Arqueológica muy importante ya que en la época prehispánica, ésta zona fué un enclave militar de los Aztecas, quienes construyeron un pequeño muro alrededor de Punta Cometa, los restos de lo que ahora localmente se llama “corral de piedra”. Hay también historias acerca de los Aztecas y de tesoros de piratas escondidos aquí. La verdad es que es un lugar muy mágico, lleno de energía, es ideal para ver el atardecer o recibir el amanecer. Les recomiendo tener mucho cuidado ya que como todo lugar sagrado no es de fácil acceso, ya que para poder llegar habrá que atravesar un camino boscoso y lleno de vegetación local y endémica. Es realmente hermoso este lugar, te recomiendo visitarlo con la mente muy abierta y con mucho respeto. Yo al llegar al lugar mi teléfono se quedó sin batería, fue extraño, así que no pude tomar muchas fotos pero la vista es increíble. Es un lugar ideal para meditar y reflexionar. Punta Cometa is a small peninsula is also known as "Sacred Hill". It is the southernmost point of the state of Oaxaca and an important place of passage for migratory birds and marine mammals, such as whales. (You will find many who will offer you the tour to see them). There is also a small virgin beach called Mermejita on the west side. It is a very important Eco Archaeological Reserve since in pre-Hispanic times, this area was a military enclave of the Aztecs, who built a small wall around Punta Cometa, the remains of what is now locally called "stone pen." There are also stories about the Aztecs and pirate treasures hidden here. The truth is that it is a very magical place, full of energy, it is ideal to watch the sunset or receive the sunrise. I recommend you to be very careful since, like any sacred place, it is not easily accessible, since in order to arrive you will have to cross a wooded road full of local and endemic vegetation. This place is really beautiful, I recommend visiting it with a very open mind and with a lot of respect. When I arrived at the place my phone ran out of battery, it was strange, so I could not take many photos but the view is incredible. It is an ideal place to meditate and reflect.

We did this short hike an hour or so before sunset, taking the right fork (I think it was called the Fisherman's Trail) which was completely deserted until it connected with the beach. By the time we reached the actual point it was packed with people jostling for a good sunset viewing spot. Amazingly, dozens more were still streaming in. Having been spoiled to see so few people initially, we chose not to wait for sunset. If you don't love crowds, consider visiting this stunning natural area during the late afternoon rather than sunset - you'll still get that magic light and great views, but no claustrophobia! Footing was slightly unsteady in some areas, but we saw people of all ages (literally 1-101) and all footwear (even barefoot!) making the trip. That said, we were glad to have decent footwear on.
