Just like all the other reviews say, this class is awesome! Alfonso knows a lot about the food in Oaxaca and the food we made was SO GOOD!! He walks you through all the steps and you get to enjoy Mezcal the whole time! It’s such a fun activity and definitely one of the best things we did in Oaxaca during our trip there! Alfonso is a super cool dude, and if you ask nicely maybe he will show you some salsa moves.

Super fun and unique cultural experience - cannot recommend enough!!! Alfonso and his family welcomed us into their house, and made us feel at home right from the beginning. We went through everything from picking up groceries at the market (and sampling lots of food there), to preparing ingredients and cooking, making cocktails, and then feasting. I was the only vegetarian in our group, and Alfonso was super flexible and adjusted the menu so that I had amazing food to eat. Was a highlight of our time in Oaxaca!

Truly great experience. A small group (8 people) was hosted by Poncho, his funny dad Senor Poncho and his lovely mum, Naomi. After learning about the ingredients on the market and creating the menu we went to their home where they have a professional kitchen setup for the cooking school. It was very comfortable and we got a lot of help and attention from all 3 of them. The food was incredible. A couple people of the group were on a rotating Margarita duty at all times after already having had some Mescal. It was a really fun afternoon with music, cooking, learning, chatting and drinking. Highly reccomended!

Wonderful cooking class. Alfonzo met us in Centro, allowed us to choose a menu from several options, walked us to the market where his English helped to us to decipher the various types of chiles and then drove us to his well appointed and spacious home kitchen for the class where his mother and father were gracious hosts with Mezcal flowing. The food was terrific, the presentation beautiful. Great value and an excellent way to spend an afternoon making mole.

ne of the best things I've ever done. Three friends had an afternoon cooking class with Alfonso. We went to a small market to purchase our ingredients and then to Alfonso's home where we were warmly greeted by his parents who assisted in some of the prep work and did the clean up. They were warm and kind, and his father full of humour. We prepared a red and green salsa, guacamole, tacitos and pork ribs with black mole sauce which was the one thing we really wanted to learn to make. Exquisite! We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and all the laughs we shared. Do it!!!

This cooking class was the best experience we have had in Mexico! You have to book it. It’s really great doing the class in small groups. A lot of the classes we looked at were larger scale, but with our size group everyone could get involved in all aspects of the cooking. We started the day at the market, choosing our recipes together and then our ingredients, then we went to the cooking studio and made our dishes. Alfonso and his parents are so welcoming and really helpful. We learnt a lot and had a really great time while doing it! We would 100% recommend this course to everyone!

The highlight of my trip to Oaxaca. The class was unforgettable. We started at the market and the teacher shared great knowledge with us. Upon arriving at the house to cook, the family greeted us warmly and welcomed us to their home. The cooking was delicious. The drinks were a super fun addition. I’m already at home making the meals that we learned. One of the best experiences with the friendliest people!

Best cooking class I've been to in the world. Alfonso is the best! He explained everything, including tastings of different things in the market. The meal we prepared was huge, including many different dihes, salsas, dessert, margaritas and mezcal of course. The best part were his parents (abuelos), who were present and helped the whole time, and really made this place feel like home. The price was totally worth it. Now when I eat different local foods in the market, I know the story behind them. Amazing!
