We did this tour with Travelex tours through the cruise line. The excursion was called “Tropical Rainforest by Horseback.” Our guide Sergio met us on the dock and we were shown to our bus. We rode for about 40-45 minutes to Rancho Capomo. We were given our helmets to wear and separated by experience level. Everyone waits while they pull out horses to match to you based on experience and height. You get your photo taken, you can purchase it for $10 cash. There was a guide out front, and there were 2 guides at the back. The trails varied in width from single file to wide enough for 2 horses. You had a little bit of freedom in the speed you go. Most people just let their horse guide the way (they know the trail), while others used their horse skills and experience to go a little faster or take a parallel path. We went along the creek and crossed many more times. The trail was also quite rocky which made it interesting and fun. The scenery was so lush and beautiful. Very forested. I rode a horse named Gramo, who was very well behaved. He was well trained and did what I asked him to (such as steer him a certain direction or go faster or slower). The largest horse on the ranch which was 16 hands. We rode through the property and saw some rows of plants for farming, and also saw lots of cattle chilling out. On the ranch they do have some cats and dogs roaming around, so be aware of that. I always made sure to keep a decent distance between me and the horse in front of me. If any of the horses have a problem, the guide at the back is paying attention and shouts to you to make the kissing noises to make your horse start moving again. We rode for about an hour or so taking in the scenery. When we stopped, they handed out water to everyone. The waterfall is a short 5 or so minute walk from where the horses were. There was a small bridge, and then a few large suspension bridges. They were quite wobbly, but good for those who love adventure. Once across the bridges, you arrived at the waterfall. Many chose to wade in to take a picture under the waterfall. The water was very cold. If you are going in, I recommend bringing water shoes, because the bottom is quite rocky. I would highly recommend pants and close toed shoes, as that is also what they recommend. I would estimate the time we spent at the waterfall was about 45 minutes. We were also able to attach our go pro to our backpack strap and film the ride which was good. The route looked totally different on the way back. We arrived back at the ranch and made our way over to the outdoor open air covered area of the ranch with the seating. The lunch included margaritas, and mexican sodas. We used the pineapple soda to make a pineapple margarita. They gave us homemade tortilla chips with salsa and pico de gallo. There were workers at the ranch that were serving you. They brought us homemade tortillas for tacos and we got carne asada and chicken, as well as rice and beans. I did hear a few people ask for a vegetarian option. The tacos were a good authentic Mexican lunch. Sergio did board the bus back with us. Because of traffic, it took a little over an hour to get back to the port. They dropped us off at the same area at the back of the mall. Overall we really enjoyed this experience. I would recommend at least knowing the basics of how to ride a horse before going on this excursion, you really need to know how to control your horse while on the trail since there is a little bit of freedom in terms of spacing between the horses. Knowing how to hold the reins, how to turn the horse, the woah command to slow and stop, kissing noises, and kicking to go faster, were all helpful. Overall, as people who have rode horses before, this tour was fabulous, and we really enjoyed it. The scenery was beautiful and the waterfall was cool to see. We would do this tour again if we came back, just go into the tour with those expectations. Overall I would recommend this tour for those who like adventure and those who want to see a different part of the Mexican countryside. Sergio was a great guide.

Sergio was the best tour guide! Explained a lot about the Sierra madre mountainside, the vendors we saw along the way, and just very hospitable. The ranch itself was well maintained, the horses well cared for, and the tour through the river was great! The water wasn’t too high and the waterfall was about a medium intensity. Not life threatening but fun to swim in. The pool around it wasn’t too deep either. I took my 12 yr old on this ride and she had a great time and the horse she was given was matched with her experience level. Which as a mom I appreciated. They have 7 zip lines! I wish I had booked the zip line and ATV tour. Now I have a reason to come back though! Lunch was as authentic as it comes! I agree it was the best meal I had in while on vacation. The ranch is also a restaurant in the weekends. I would definitely just come back for the food.

What an awesome day! One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. We rode along a beautiful stream out to a waterfall and when we returned we got to make our own salsa from fresh ingredients and were shown how our lunch would be prepared. We were in Vallarta for 5 days and I think this was easily the best part of the trip. They made us an outstanding plate of authentic Mexican cuisine and even let us sample some seriously good tequila. I don’t typically care for tequila but the stuff they have here is amazing. Our guide made it an awesome day and an awesome experience and I would definitely come back!

The ranch is beautiful, and the owner and workers are all really nice and accommodating. We enjoyed riding the horses through the Sierra and through the river, all while taking in all the scenery. The waterfall was breathtaking, a bit to cold for my liking for a dip but it was nice to look at. After the ride, we were able to make our own Pico de Gallo salsa and enjoyed a delicious steak and chicken meal with hand made tortillas and paired with a delicious beverage of our choice. It was a great half day experience, would definitely do it again and maybe even add on the zip line experience.

Fabulous ride! Took a friend who has only ridden a handful of times and the horse they paired her up with had more whoa than go. While I have more experience and was paired with a lively mount. FOOD WAS AMAZING! made my own tortillas, with assistance and chopped up Pico. Everyone was so friendly and kind when teaching us a new skill. 10/10 absolutely recommend, no need to look any farther
