Disclaimer: Doña Celia is my wife's aunt and we stayed with them for a week during a recent visit. My review is written from a tourist point of view with additional insight into the family run restaurant. Restauran Dona Celia is a well known local restaurant that is only open on Sundays. The family works all week to prepare for the Sunday rush of locals and tourists alike. I witnessed first hand as family members and hired helped spent the entire day Saturday meticulously preparing the menu for the next day. I also had the pleasure of tasting various home cooked dishes that are not on the menu including javalelina stewed in a red sauce, fresh made corn tamales (uchepos), sailfish tiritas (ceviche) and fillets steamed in banana leaves from a fresh catch. Every dish served in the restaurant is made with the same attention to detail as the food prepared for daily meals. The restaurant also serves fresh squeezed juices and hand-made liquados. On Friday mornings, the family bakes fresh Mexican pastries for sale in the afternoon. These delectable breads are baked traditional adobe oven heated with coconut husks. The coconut empanadas are some of the best I've tasted. Regardless of which meal you choose off the menu, you will not be disappointed.
