★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was on the way to Playa del Carmen from Tulum. A police officer forced me to pull over and said that I violated the speed regulations. He said that the speed limit of the right line is 80km/h, and that of left line is 40km/h. So I had to pay 3,000 peso as a fine. I said that I will go to a police station to pay the fine right now. He said that today is sunday, so the office is closed. Then he asked how much I have in cash. After that he took my 700 peso. All Mexican people were kind and good except Mexican policemen. Shame on you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On our way to the airport on October 26, 2015 at approximately 10am, while driving through the police check just south of the Cancun airport on the main highway we were pulled over. I didn't know why until, despite the fact that we were going the same speed as the busy traffic, we were asked where we were going. We said the airport. The officer then said we were speeding through a checkpoint, again, there was heavy traffic with cars no more than 30 feet in front and behind us at the checkpoint, and he said we had to pay $2500 pesos at the station 45 minutes away or we couldn't go to the airport. Of course we explained that wasn't possible, and that the fine seemed too high, and that we weren't speeding. The motorcycle officer had my license, refused to let us go, refused to show any of his id, refused to write a ticket, didn't show any proof we were speeding. He did cut us a deal, when he said he could take our money on the site. I pulled my cash out of my wallet expecting this extortion to not end any other way. He took everything I had at that point which was $100 US. Please understand that we will never again go to Mexico despite having a good experience otherwise. I couldn't believe that in 2015 they are still exploiting tourists right out in the open with such blatant corruption. I've been to 4 contents in the last 18 months and this was the worst experience I've had by far. Get your act together Mexico. How many tourists with their thousands of dollars do your officers prevent from ever coming back to your beautiful country so they can steal $50, 100, maybe more.
