The ruins of the fort, the contaduria (customs house), and church are very fine and well worth a visit. Earlier this past year there was a great restaurant there, overlooking the city of San Blas. The beautiful painted chairs and tables you can see in the photo were situated in front of great open windows--at the level of flight for hawks and other large birds. The fresh breeze and the wheeling birds were wonderful to watch as we dined. Unfortunately, someone very foolishly decided to close the restaurant and dismantle the seating arrangements, just at the beginning of the winter tourist season in November 2017. Maybe it was because the restaurant owners completely failed to advertise its presence to anyone passing on the busy highway below the hill, so that many were unaware of it. For a town so dependent on income from tourism this was a really stupid decision, and now visitors to the ruins have lost a great site for eating, relaxing and bird-watching.

The Fort as its known in the San Blas area is ease to find and to access. There is parking and no cost to enter. The view is excellent being the highest point in the surrounding estuary environment. Sunsets are great but so are the bugs at that time of day. The Fort is a place where some local events take place. On location there's little info available about the history and the part it played in the development of Western Mexico. Do some research before going to make it a meaningful tour.

Historic gem but beware of mosquitos. Shortly after arriving we stepped out of the car to take pictures, when we were swarmed by mosquitos. We ran back, sprayed repellant and enjoyed the sights
