¡Hola! Me llamo Juan. I am a surfer/surf-guide based out of Salina Cruz in
Oaxaca, Mexico. I started Salty Surf Camps 2 years ago to share the
experience of exploring and surfing the best waves this region has to offer.
With over 11 years of experience surfing/guiding, I know which of our many
perfect point break setups will be working best depending on the wind,
swell direction and tide so that you can enjoy the best (and possibly
longest) waves of your life! We have 20+ waves in the 170km between
Salina Cruz and Huatulco, and my goal is to help you and your crew surf
perfect, uncrowded waves ALL day long!
I’ve had the pleasure of working with World Title contender, Jordy Smith,
the Billabong women’s team: Seekers of the Sun, the STAB crew from The
Dock 2.0, and many more pros from all over the world!
What we offer:
Accommodation: we can accommodate group sizes of 1-10 people. Rates
may vary depending on size of group.
4x4 Transport: full-day transport to and from the breaks. We cater to all
ability levels and will find the best waves for your surfing!
Daily meals & Snacks: breakfast and snacks while exploring are provided.
Photo/Video: I bring my camera and GoPro with me every day so you can
go home with pictures/footage of all your waves
Tons of fun!
What to expect:
When arriving in Huatulco Airport I will arrange for transportation from the
airport to Salty Surf Camps (not included in rate). I will be waiting for you to
help you unpack and settle in. Every day we wake up with breakfast and I
will have a plan for where and when the best waves will be. I have all the
essentials needed for a full day excursion, including shade, chairs, water,
and snacks.
Who this experience is best for:
I specialize in small groups, solo travelers, couples, and more. There is a
wave in Salina Cruz for all ability levels. Come surf with me, Juan, on this

He took us to the best waves, was very prepared for the trip with full coolers / snacks, was a super fun guy, and his family cooked us the most authentic Oaxacan meal and made us feel at home. Plus, he took great photos! 10/10 would recommend and we will be back.

He knows exactly when the winds are switching and which spot is good for that direction. We would get there first and hours before anyone would arrive so we would have perfect sessions with just our crew.
His english is good and improving with ever visit! He has a great set up for your stay. The food was amazing too. Stoked to get back down there with Juan!

Not only that, He knew where to go each session based on sand positioning, wind direction, all the way down to the degree of the swell angle (more important than you think down there) Above that, Juan is the kindest man and makes sure all you needs are taken care of. Gets you the best food around, easy transportation, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and even films your session both from the beach AND the water. He even knows a few secret spots ; ) we also feel more comfortable with Juan as he is a local and he usually knows many of the other guys at the surf spots. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Salty Surf House is definitely one of the best set ups in Salina Cruz! Juan is an awesome guide & staying at his house is such a unique experience. You get delicious home cooked meals by his mom as well as a clean room and AC which is so nice at the end of a long day in the sun.
The Salty Surf House is about 25 minutes from the waves, but don’t let this deter you. We would wake up early, drive down to one of the spots, spend about 5 hours there, come back from lunch / a nap, and do it all again in the afternoon. Juan brings a tent, chairs, snacks, and anything else you would need to have a good beach set up. It was such a great experience and I can’t recommend Juan enough!
