A finales del siglo antepasado, el viajero o caminante que iba de Tacubaya al sur, rumbo a Mixcoac o San Ángel tenía que pasar por la garita que se llamaba San Pedro; esa zona estaba compuesta por grandes extensiones de terreno, que contenían algunas rancherías y haciendas. El suelo de toda esta parte fue siempre muy fértil, en donde abundaban grandes arboledas, predominando los pinos. En este lugar los frailes dominicos levantaron una pequeña ermita, cercana a la garita y para identificarla mejor, el pueblo empezó a llamarla ermita de San Pedro de los Pinos a la gran cantidad de esos árboles coníferos.
Cerca de la ermita formaron la ranchería de Tacubaya que alcanzó gran auge, su población se fue extendiendo hacia el sur y al juntarse y ocupar la zona de San Pedro, queda como una colonia.

Es una estación de baja afluencia de pasajeros y cuenta con dos salidas:
• Al Oriente: Avenida Revolución y Calle 9 Colonia San Pedro de los Pinos.
