A very beautiful and little-visited place so you can take good photos of the ruins, you will be surprised to see their architecture, the state in which they are, despite the fact that they are already many years old, highly recommended to visit it on Sunday since it is free and you can spend a day with your family very nice.

Follow Google maps, if this is the place, do not despair, at first if you think it is wrong and there are no signs but this is the place. In general, beautiful, archaeological zone submerged in the jungle of Campeche, somewhat large, with time it is traveled in approximately 1: 30-2 hours. There is a man who offers you a guide tour for an amount of money that you want to give him, super friendly but shy, so you ask for the hahaha

(Please look for the english version below if you will). Beautiful archaelogical site 36 kms away from Hopelchen, in the north of Campeche; about two hours either from Merida or Campeche (city). Narrow road, with farm machinery driving by, many holes specially in two areas. Driving carefully is a must. Even though, it is worth the while without a doubt. Big city on top of a hill, with many small "plazas" and main buildings well identified. With an architectural style of its own, still it has a building representing "Chenes" style (big mouth of earth's monster wide open), yet another one seeming "Rio Bec" style (false stairways and rounded corners), finally with some details in "Puuc style" (small decorative columns in many buildings). El MIrador (a structure of great volume with still many restauration challenges) reaches a height above all other buildings, and then gets a beautiful view of the sorrounding valleys. Similar in that way to Hochob, some 60 kilometers west. Still much to rebuild. Try getting here early in the morning, specially in the summer time. A local guide is great help to know also the stories of the place.
(Please look for the english version below if you will). Magnificent archaeological zone 36 kms from Hopelchen, in the north of the state of Campeche, and about 180 kms from Mérida. Narrow road, traveled by heavy agricultural machinery, with potholes in general and with two areas of special care. This visit is well worth it. A large city on top of a 40-meter-high mound, with plenty of well-identified central squares and buildings. Original architectural style, with certain characteristics of the Chenes area (the representation of the jaws of the monster of the earth), but also Rio Bec style (false stairways and rounded corners), as well as details in the Puuc style (ashlars and decorative columns present in a lot of buildings). El Mirador (a large-volume structure that still presents many restoration challenges) overlooks all the buildings, and with it, the surrounding valleys. Similar in this to Hochob, about 60 kilometers to the west. Much to rebuild overall. Try to arrive early, especially when daylight saving time is in effect.
Beautiful, silent, in the middle of the jungle, enigmatic.

One of the most remote sites you will ever visit. Make sure you know exactly where you are going and have enough gas, water, etc..

We went here on Sunday 26 December 2021. We were driving from Uxmal to Campeche. Normally we would do the puuc route : Kabah, Sayil , Xlapak and Labna but only Kabah was open due c… so we went to Santa Rosa Xtampak. It was a detour of 1h30 but it was worth it. The road Santa Rosa for about 16 km was a bumpy road but it was very doable. The way back to campeche the road was almost always good. The ruins are beautiful and it’s quit big. The price is only 50 pesos. There were no other people
