En este lugar, los voluntarios y encargados tratan de rescatar la mayor cantidad de huevos de tortuga golfina posibles para ayudarlas a llegar al mar cuando sea su tiempo. En las madrugadas van a la playa, esperan que las tortugas mamás depositen sus huevos para resguardarlos después reubicando sus nidos. Cuando eclosionan los huevos trasladan a las tortuguitas a un estanque y por la tarde-noche las liberan en la orilla del mar; así procuran preservar la vida de estas tortugas que son amenazadas por muchos pobladores que buscan los huevos para venderlos e incluso matan a las madres para sacarles los huevitos antes de que desoven. Es increíble el esfuerzo que hacen en este Santuario Tortuguero. Seeing the release of little turtles in the afternoons from September to November is a memorable experience. When the eggs hatch, they transfer the hatchlings to a pond and in the evening they release them on the seashore; In this way, they try to preserve the life of these turtles, which are threatened by many inhabitants who look for the eggs to sell and even kill the mothers to remove the eggs before they spawn. The effort they make in this Tortuguero Sanctuary is incredible.

It was a magical experience to watch the the turtles swim away as the sun went below the horizon, casting gold and pink colours across the beach and water. They had us pick up some plastic on the beach and made sure to remind people to cut down on plastic waste and not to eat (!) the endangered turtles or their eggs.
