★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Walk from Conkal to Ixil was a great experience. Probably not many folks do this as a hike, but several groups of bikers pass me. Main attraction are the large cenotes, but I enjoyed the wildflowers and an amazing number of buttreflies; I counted 16 kinds of butterflies, 6 kinds of morninglories. I hiked for 4 hours and covered about 17-18 km. I took a combi from Merida to Conkal for 14 pesos. Return from Ixil took two local taxies for about 100 pesos. Well worth the price. Be prepared. Carry plenty of water and lunch. It was a relativily easy hike, but a fair distance. I had cell phone coverage for the whole way, It was good to have google maps to check my progress. Highly recomended for experienced hikers.
