★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La palabra Huautla, proviene del vocablo náhuatl, que en el esplendor del señorío azteca, Cuitlahuac denominará: Cuiticaname Huautlan, que etimológicamente significa "Lugar de Águilas".
De Jiménez: En honor al general Mariano Jiménez, quien fuera en 1884 Gobernador de nuestro estado y el primer mandatario que pisara tierras mazatecas y le diera la categoría de Villa.
De la historia de los Mazatecos y relativamente de los Huautecos poco se conoce con exactitud; nadie sabe de donde proceden ni como transcurrieron los primeros años de su existencia; una versión está basada en la interpretación de los anales de Quauhtinchan que dicen que descienden de los nonoalcas-chichimecas, quienes emigraron de Tula, a principios del siglo XII fundando pueblos más viejos en la parte alta de Huautla, entre ellos Mazatlán y Chilchotla; Teotitlán y posiblemente Ixcatlán en la parte baja.
