I took my English speaking grandson (12 years old) on the Hierve el Agua Tour two days ago. We were picked up at 9:30 a.m. but did not leave Oaxaca until 10:30 due to a lack of communication between the driver and the main office. I was promised that we would have two separate guides; one English speaking and one Spanish speaking. That's why I agreed to pay $100 (pesos) more per person than the other tours of the same kind. We had one guide. He would give ten minutes of information in Spanish followed by a minute or two in English. The buffet lunch was a huge disappointment. There were flies everywhere on all the food. It was a hut on the side of the road and there were no other options for food. $150 per person that did not include a beverage. Choose another tour agency! There are many to pick from.

I see mixed reviews here. My experience (based on two different tours) with Yuren Villalobos as the tour guide was very pleasant. He shared a great deal of information about the places we visited and was fun too.

The tour itself was average but the service was one of the worst I've had through my travels in Mexico. When we purchased the tickets for our tour the price was supposed to include pick-up and drop-off at our hotel. The day started off when the company called us and gave us 10 minutes notice that they were going to pick us up 30 minutes before our pick up time. They explained they were having some logistical issues and my friend and I hurried up to be ready for our pickup. We waited outside for about 15 minutes and then called the company who told us to keep waiting. About 25 minutes after waiting outside our hotel we get a random text message from the guide to meet them at another location about a 15-minute walk from our hotel. About 10 minutes after we arrived at the location a gentleman walked up to us and told us to follow him several blocks where we finally got into the van. Obviously, at this point I was annoyed but I tried to make conversation with the guide and ask him what happened, at this point we were well past our pick up time, he immediately got very defensive and told me he didn't want to hear it and if I had any issues I needed to talk to the office. The tour itself was okay it was a bit crowded but it was an average tour. When we were turned to a Oaxaca City the driver randomly dropped the entire van off in the center of the city in the rain and told us to get out. We were at least 30min. away from our hotel and I tried to explain that we were told we would be dropped off at our hotel, he refused to take us and I asked if he could at least take us a bit closer since it was raining, he told me it wasn't his problem and to get out of the van. I should note that we weren't the only people on this trip that were upset about where we were dropped off at the end of the tour as many people were in a similar situation as us. Our tour didn't include any entrance fees it only included transportation so the fact that this company couldn't get what we paid them to do right was really upsetting, but more so the attitude of their employees. The next day the office called me trying to sell me another tour and when I told them what happened they refused to address the issue or even answer back. I've traveled throughout Mexico and done similar tours and I've always had better service than this. In fact I've paid for tours that were only slightly more and included entrance fees and lunch. I recommend you shop around and find a better company and get better value for your money.
